Danville: Moonlight Movies series kicking off with 'Aladdin'

The town of Danville welcomes back its tradition of hosting summer movie nights outdoors starting this week.

The Moonlight Movies series begins this Friday at 6:45 p.m. when community members can watch the 1992 classic Disney animated movie "Aladdin," along with arts and crafts activities provided for the kids. The movie will be shown on a huge screen near the band shell on the Town Green, 420 Front St. and attendees can bring blankets, chairs and picnic dinners for the movie screening. No registration required.

Also on this summer's schedule:

June 24: "The Little Rascals." 1994 comedy film inspired by the 1950s television series of the same name and the 1920-40s "Our Gang" film shorts, centering around Alfalfa, Spanky and the rest of the neighborhood kids and their crazy adventures.

July 15: "The Muppets Movie." Kermit, Miss Piggy and the rest of the gang hold a telethon to raise money in a desperate attempt to save the Muppets' former studio in this 2011 musical comedy.

July 29: "Ant-Man." In this 2015 superhero Marvel film, expert thief Scott Lang ends up with a suit that shrinks him into Ant-Man. With his new superhuman strength and ability to control an army of ants, he must use his new skills to stop the bad guy from using this new found technology for evil.

August 12: "Inside Out." Riley, a usually happy-go-lucky kid, has her whole world flipped upside down when her parents decide to move the family from the Midwest to San Francisco. The 2015 Pixar animated film joins Riley as her emotions guide her through this pivotal time in her life.
