San Ramon city officials are holding a free election training session Monday evening for residents interested in learning more about running for public office, with the candidacy filing period set to open in less than two weeks.
The informational session at City Hall will focus on topics such as the requirements to run for public office in the city, how holding office impacts officeholders' time and what does it cost to participate in the election.
San Ramon will see the mayor's seat and two regular positions on the council up for election Nov. 8. The spots are currently held by Mayor Bill Clarkson and councilmen Scott Perkins and Phil O'Loane.
Prospective candidates can begin to submit their paperwork July 8 to join the race. The candidacy filing period continues until Aug. 12 -- unless one of the incumbents does not enter the race, in which case the filing window is extended until Aug. 17 for non-incumbents.
The election training session is scheduled to start at 6 p.m. inside the large conference room at City Hall, 7000 Bollinger Canyon Road. No RSVP required, according to city officials.
