Dublin police find 500 pounds of illegal fireworks

Pinole, Sunnyvale residents accused of selling fireworks on internet

Police seized more than 500 pounds of illegal fireworks Wednesday from two people who were selling them in Dublin through the internet.

Dublin police said an undercover operation led first to 33-year-old Pinole resident Danielle Island who delivered about 80 pounds of fireworks to police. Then a Sunnyvale man, Daniel Kim, 28, delivered 60 pounds of fireworks to officers, according to police.

Kim was questioned and officers learned that he had more fireworks at his home in Sunnyvale. Officers obtained a search warrant for the home and allegedly found about 400 pounds.

The Alameda County Sheriff's Office Explosive Ordnance Disposal Squad will destroy the fireworks, police said.

Dublin officers are taking a zero tolerance approach toward illegal fireworks, and additional officers will be on patrol this weekend to keep residents safe.
