San Ramon: Helicopter lands on I-680 to airlift crash victim

All lanes of southbound Interstate 680 in San Ramon were briefly blocked Tuesday afternoon while a medical helicopter landed to airlift a person whose truck hit a tree on the side of the highway, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The crash was reported shortly before 1:35 p.m. on southbound Highway 680 near the on-ramp from Bollinger Canyon Road.

The person suffered major injuries in the crash and was airlifted to a hospital. CHP officials did not immediately have more information on the person's condition.

The landing of the helicopter briefly prompted all four southbound lanes of the highway to close. The two left lanes reopened shortly after the helicopter departed, and the other two lanes reopened as of about 3:15 p.m., CHP officials said.
