Active-shooter training set at Los Cerros Middle School

Officials alerting residents about simulation to avoid concern, confusion

Danville police and other agencies are scheduled to participate in an active-shooter training exercise Thursday at Los Cerros Middle School, town officials announced in an advisory.

The preparedness activity will involve simulated firearms and explosive sounds; no live ammunition will be used, officials said. The exercise will be limited to the areas within the campus at 968 Blemer Road, and it will not extend into the surrounding neighborhoods, they said.

"The training is designed to simulate a critical incident and provide response training for law enforcement and fire personnel," Danville officials said. "The activities taking place on campus will be simulated for training purposes only, and there will not be an actual event."

Town representatives said they wanted to alert residents in advance of the event in the hopes of preventing worry or concern.

The active-shooter exercise is scheduled to run from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Thursday at Los Cerros, which is located off Green Valley Road between Stone Valley and Diablo roads.
