Authorities search for man accused of lewd conduct in Alamo store

The Contra Costa County Sheriff's Office is looking for an unknown man accused of masturbating inside the Safeway at the Alamo Plaza Shopping Center last week.

Investigators on Thursday released photographs of the man as he left the store just after 9 p.m. Aug. 22.

A woman told sheriff's deputies she was shopping in the grocery store that night when she began being followed by a man she didn't recognize.

Authorities allege the man later started masturbating next to the woman in an aisle, and when she turned toward him and questioned him, he quickly left the store.

The man was described as white in his early 20s with dark hair and wearing a purple shirt, dark pants and a backpack.

Sheriff's office personnel released several photographs of the man pulled from surveillance footage and posted a 9-second video of the man walking out of the store -- both of which were posted on sheriff's office social media pages.

Anyone with information about the case can contact the sheriff's office investigation division at 313-2600. Tips can be emailed to or left anonymously by voicemail at 866-846-3592.
