San Ramon ready for annual Bah Humbug 5K run/walk

Saturday event raises funds for city's Parks and Community Services Dept.

The San Ramon community is set to continue ushering in the holiday season with the annual Bah Humbug 5K run/walk this Saturday, with proceeds benefiting the city's Parks and Community Services Department.

The holiday-themed event offers a flat and fast 5-kilometer (3.1-mile) chip-timed certified course through monitored streets of San Ramon, event organizers said. It provides something for runners or walkers of all levels -- as well as those who like to dress up in holiday costumes.

The Bah Humbug 5K entry fee is $45 per participant, with proceeds going directly toward San Ramon Parks and Community Services programs. Medals will go to the top male and female finishers in each age category.

The Mayor's Crown is also up for grabs, going to the lowest combined times of the 2016 Bah Humbug and next July's 2017 Run San Ramon pre-registered 5K runner. The Mayor's Crown winner will be recognized Run San Ramon event on Independence Day next summer.

The Bah Humbug also offers costume awards in categories such as "Most Grinch-Like," "Holiday Spirit" and "Group Theme."

Organizers said they'll have plenty of snacks and beverages on-hand Saturday, including the popular chilly morning favorite -- ice cream bars. All pre-registered runners and walkers may receive a commemorative long-sleeve shirt and Bah Humbug ornament.

Participants are also asked to spread the holiday cheer by bringing canned food donations to registration/check-in tables Saturday to benefit the Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano.

All pre-registered participants can receive their bib number and shirt prior to the event at the early packet pick-up, hosted by the new San Ramon Sports Basement (1041 Market Place) this Thursday from 11 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.

All race day registrants and pre-registrants who wait to pick up will receive their shirts upon completion of the race on a first- come, first-served basis, organizers said. Shirts are only guaranteed to pre-registered participants at the packet pick-up. Ornaments are given out at the completion of the run.

Check-in and race-day registration open at 7:30 a.m. Saturday at the San Ramon Community Center at Central Park, 12501 Alcosta Blvd. The run and walk will begin at 9 a.m.

For more Bah Humbug 5K information, contact the San Ramon Parks and Community Services Department at 973-3200 or email parks@sanramon.ca.gov. To register early, visit the event webpage, with pre-registration open through this Tuesday night.
