San Ramon tree-lighting set for Friday at Bishop Ranch

Evening event to feature 70-foot illuminated fir, plus Santa, kids' snow area, reindeer, music and more

Thousands are expected to turn out to Bishop Ranch 1 Plaza on Friday evening for San Ramon's annual tree-lighting ceremony and holiday event.

Set to run from 5:30-7:30 p.m., the free family-friendly holiday showcase will feature the illumination of a 70-foot Douglas fir tree, photo opportunities with Santa Claus, a petting zoo with live reindeer, a snow play area for children 12 and younger, and live music, dance and theater entertainment on two stages.

"We're looking forward to kicking off the holiday season with our annual Bishop Ranch tree-lighting ceremony," said Alexander Mehran Jr., president and chief operating officer at Sunset Development Co., which owns and operates Bishop Ranch.

"This year we're expecting nearly 4,000 guests and are glad that this community event has allowed people to come together to celebrate the good things San Ramon and the East Bay have to offer, especially during this season of giving," Mehran added.

The tree-lighting is scheduled to take place at the seven-story fir at 6:30 p.m.

To feed attendees' appetites throughout the event, food trucks and local restaurant vendors will be on hand as well as free refreshments.

For those embracing the spirit of holiday giving, One Warm Coat will be on-site accepting gently used coats and financial donations and the Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano Counties will be on hand accepting funds and contributions of pre-packaged food (no glass containers).

Bishop Ranch 1 Plaza is located at 6111 Bollinger Canyon Road in San Ramon. For more information about the event, call 866-0100.
