Just in time for the holiday shopping season, the new Rose Street municipal parking lot in downtown Danville is set to open Monday with an official ribbon-cutting ceremony.
After four months of construction, the lot at the northwest corner of Rose Street and East Linda Mesa Avenue will bring an additional 78 free public parking spaces to the area.
“We’re very excited to see this project completed,” said Town Manager Joe Calabrigo. “We are continuing to work on providing ample free parking for our residents to use in the downtown business district.”
The final project cost — for both design and construction — came out to a total of $1.8 million, funded through capital improvement program general purpose revenues, the civic facilities fund and downtown parking in-lieu fees. Construction began in July.
Aside from parking spaces, the project includes brick-banded sidewalks, street trees, curb bulb-outs, decorative crosswalks, bioretention storm water treatment, asphalt concrete roadway rehabilitation, LED parking lot lights and overhead conversion to underground utilities, according to town officials.
Other town-funded parking projects to be completed in the upcoming years include the San Ramon Valley High School parking lot, the Village Theatre municipal parking lot expansion project and the Sycamore Valley park and ride lot expansion project — a combined total of 500 additional parking spaces.
Monday’s ceremony is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. and will be attended by members of the Danville Town Council.

Well done Danville! Happy that it’s completed in time for the busy holiday season.
