Blackhawk Museum to celebrate 30th year with a 'Night at the Museum'

Gala to feature musical entertainment from Phantom of the Opera

The Blackhawk Museum will be celebrating its 30th year of operations with its annual "Night at the Museum" event this October, and tickets are now on sale for the gala.

This year's celebration -- aptly named the "Phantom of the Opera Gala" -- will feature dinner and theater entertainment provided by famed actor and Broadway performer Franc D'Ambrosio.

Ticket sales raise funds for the museum's Children's Education and Transportation Fund, which provides school groups from around the Bay Area funding for the transportation costs to the museum.

Headlining the event is Broadway's Phantom of the Opera himself, D'Ambrosio, who will sing for attendees in two 45-minute sets. Readers who are not theater fans may recognize D'Ambrosio as Anthony Corleone in The Godfather Part III, where he sang the theme song "Speak Softly Love" and "Cavalleria Rusticana" aria in the film's opera scene.

The sit-down dinner begins with a salad with currants and pecans, followed by the main course of beef and grilled Atlantic salmon, served with roasted fingerling potatoes and fresh seasonal vegetables. Dessert features a white chocolate cheesecake with an Oreo cookie crust.

Prior to dinner, a cocktail hour and auction will give participants the opportunity to purchase various items that will benefit the museum. Items consist of international travel packages, a Jay Leno garage tour, Formula One Paddock Club passes to a 2019 Grand Prix event, dining out and other group events.

Tickets are $150 and can be purchased online, at the museum’s reception desk or via email to natm@blackhawkmuseum.org. The event is known to sell out fast so interested residents are advised to act sooner rather than later.

The Phantom of the Opera Gala takes place Sunday, Oct. 14, with a reception at 5 p.m., dinner at 7 p.m. and entertainment at 8, at the Blackhawk Museum, 3700 Blackhawk Plaza Circle.
