Coroner IDs big-rig driver killed in I-580 crash in Dublin

Sacramento man crushed to death after big-rig rolled near Fallon ramp

A truck driver who was killed in a collision between two big-rigs on westbound Interstate 580 in Dublin on Tuesday afternoon has been identified by the Alameda County coroner as 32-year-old Henry Louis Rodriguez-Carrerasquillo of Sacramento.

The California Highway Patrol said a 2000 Peterbilt driven by Rodriguez-Carrerasquillo and a 2016 Freightliner driven by a 26-year-old man from Miami, Fla., were both traveling west on I-580 at about 12:36 p.m. Tuesday when, for unknown reasons, Rodriguez-Carrerasquillo allowed the front right of his big-rig to collide into the left rear of the other big-rig, according to CHP Officer Tyler Hahn.

Rodriguez-Carrerasquillo then lost control of the Peterbilt and it swerved to the right and overturned, according to Hahn.

He was crushed and emergency crews pronounced him dead at the scene, Hahn said.

The Freightliner driver continued westbound and exited the freeway at Tassajara Road and was later contacted by the CHP and cooperated with investigators, according to Hahn.

The Freightliner driver and a 24-year-old woman from Miami, Fla., who was a passenger in his big-rig weren't injured in the collision, Hahn said.

The Fallon Road on-ramp to westbound I-580 and the two far right westbound lanes were closed for several hours after the fatal collision.
