Volunteers sought for Bedford Gallery in Walnut Creek

Residents needed to volunteer as guild or docent volunteers

The Walnut Creek-based Bedford Gallery is currently looking for volunteers to serve as either guild or docent volunteers for its coming fall season.

Bedford Gallery officials say volunteer opportunities are a great opportunity for people to learn about the arts in a fun environment and that no prior knowledge of the art world is required to sign up.

“Bedford Gallery, located in the Lesher Center for the Arts, offers enriching, educational volunteer opportunities,” gallery representatives said in a statement. “By volunteering you can learn about trends in contemporary art, make friends, and contribute to a thriving art scene in your community.”

Guild member volunteers will be tasked with staffing the gallery’s front desk and welcoming in visitors, while docents will be trained to lead school tours of gallery exhibitions and provide hands-on art projects. Guild volunteers will be asked to volunteer for 2.5-hour shifts once a month, and are also welcome to assist during special receptions.

Those interested in volunteering as a docent will need to attend a special training course to learn the ropes. Training opportunities will be held Sept. 18 and 25 and Oct. 2, 10 and 16 from 1-3:30 p.m.

To sign up, contact Carmen Kelly at 295-1416 or via email at kelly@bedfordgallery.org.

The Bedford Gallery is open Tuesdays through Sundays, noon to 5 p.m. at 1601 Civic Drive, Walnut Creek.
