County reminds residents about applying for WIC benefits

Contra Costa County announced Wednesday that residents eligible for the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children can still apply for benefits during the COVID-19 coronavirus outbreak.

Pregnant women and women who have an infant or child less than 5 years old may be qualified for the WIC program, particularly if their income has been affected by the coronavirus outbreak and the Bay Area and statewide shelter-in-place orders.

While in-person appointments to apply for WIC benefits are currently suspended to contain the virus' spread, qualifying women in Contra Costa County can apply for the program at www.cchealth.org/wic or by calling 800-414-4942. Members of the program can also access the WIC app to monitor their benefits.

In addition to the county WIC office, residents can contact the Concord and Crossroad WIC office at 925-646-5370, the Brentwood WIC office at 925-513-6880, the Pittsburg WIC office 925-431-2460 and the San Pablo WIC office at 510-942-4000 to enroll, certify or obtain benefits, reschedule appointments, receive breastfeeding help and ask questions about the program.

Information and updates on the ongoing coronavirus outbreak can be found at the Contra Costa Health Services website at https://cchealth.org/ and the California Department of Public Health website at https://www.cdph.ca.gov/.
