Police: Two men arrested after carjacking attempt in Walnut Creek

Incident occurred in North Main Street parking lot

Walnut Creek police said they arrested two men on Saturday after the pair tried carjacking another man's car.

Police said at 5:42 p.m. Saturday they received a call about a carjacking in progress in a parking lot in the 2500 block of North Main Street.

Two men allegedly opened the front passenger and driver's side doors of the vehicle and dragged the male victim out of the car, and then kicked him in the stomach while trying to steal his car.

A bystander allegedly intervened, causing the suspects to flee.

Arriving officers found the suspects running on Third Avenue. Other units set a perimeter and found the suspects hiding on Cameo Court and took them into custody without incident.

Police identified the suspects as William Hleza and Emmanuel Hleza. Both were arrested on suspicion of attempted carjacking, kidnapping and conspiracy and were transported to the county jail in Martinez, where each remained in lieu of $350,000 bail.

Police say no weapons were involved and the victim sustained minor injuries for which he was treated at the scene.
