Car windows across San Ramon were shot out last night by someone with a BB gun, police said.

Sgt. Mike Boehrer said windows in about 20 cars were shot overnight. He said the incidents centered in the areas of Canyon Creek, Shadow Mountain Drive and Canyon Crest sometime after midnight.

Boehrer said there are some simple precautions people can take.

“Leave porch lights on and pay attention to vehicles parked in the area that don’t look like the belong there, and report any suspicious activity,” he said.

Boehrer said there are no suspects yet.

  1. 50 cents worth of BB pellets causes what $2-10k of damage?

Plus the inconvenience of getting the property fixed.

This is sad, not funny or clever.

If caught, they should obviously pay retribution but also do community service in an area where they can meet and help people for whom such an event is traumatic or causes financial hardship, like elderly people on fixed incomes who don’t want to risk jacking up their insurance premiums etc. or, these days, people in-between jobs.

If the perpetrators are reading this, here is my recommendation: man up, pay the restitution, do the community service, (yep it will “suck” but you might get to meet some neat people), then go back to getting your kicks from video games where all the damage is digital.

And remember, there is no re-spawning in real life!

  2. San Ramon cops were obviously too busy to harass people with disabled parking permits to watch out for damage to private cars. After all, they have to enhance San Ramon’s civic revenue and catching vandals brings in no money, harassing disabled person parkers might.

  3. Shooting out windows with a BB gun is pretty low – hopefully the punk (or punks) will be caught.

Vlado, I’m sorry you feel that the SR police are “harassing” people with disabled parking permits. Although to be honest, I think that there are a fair number of people around who have either obtained disabled parking passes for very marginal “conditions”, or else use passes “left over” from a prior condition, and I would applaud police efforts to ensure that disabled parking permits and users are legitimate. (As an aside, I DO understand that some people who appear outwardly healthy may indeed have a medical condition of some kind that merits the use of disabled parking.) Because using a disabled parking spot when you don’t need or deserve one is also pretty low…

  4. Also San Ramon PD are not taking serious, theft that happens when a car is broken in to. I had over $600 worth of things stolen out of my car and did not get a response when I emailed the officer regarding a Rifle (not a BB gun either)that was in the car that was stolen until more then a month later when I emailed the Chief of police, Even then all I got was a “we are investigating it,” Type of email in response.

  5. I would doubt SRPD are harassing the actual disabled!! I know for a fact several wives of disabled men, drive all over town in their MB’s flashing disabled placards and park in disabled parking spaces everyday!! The men are never with them! I wish the police would crack down more, not less!!

  6. Awww… are the evil police picking on poor mentally disabled Vlado Blech again? Maybe they just hate people with “Rush is Right” stickers on their cars.

  7. Daniel, why did you leave a rifle in your car? That’s just stupid. Why was it not inside the house if not in a gun safe? Further, it amazes me what people leave in their cars – would you leave $600 cash laying on the seat?
