Officers arrested a man suspected of brandishing a firearm at a busy restaurant in Walnut Creek Friday night, police said.

Police responded to Cinco de Mayo restaurant at 1372 Locust St. at around 7:50 p.m. after receiving several reports that a man had walked in to the restaurant and pointed a gun at several employees while yelling at them in Spanish.

Officers spotted a man who fit the suspect description at the corner of Locust and Cypress streets.

Police detained 50-year-old Eduardo Ricardo Prado of Concord and allegedly found a realistic-looking replica handgun on his person, according to police.

Prado was arrested on suspicion of brandishing a firearm, making terrorist threats, and being in possession of fraudulent identification.

He is being detained at Martinez County Jail on $75,000 bail.

  1. My, My, My… I would say a little over reaction by the Walnut Creek PD.

Arrested for brandishing a toy hand gun and making terrorist threats in Spanish…WOW

I think the only thing he did that was really stupid was risking getting shot by the cop’s. Pointing a gun, real or not will get you killed.

  2. Questions:
    What content was he yelling?
What is his nationality and US Citizenship status?
    Was any motive established?

I dislike these stories that leave so many obvious questions unanswered…..and so much room for rampant speculation.

  3. Maybe he should have been shot by the police; then Julia may have had a point in decrying “a little over reaction.”
Thank you, Walnut Creek police department!

  4. Anyone ever watch the rigors Police Officers go through- training to make instant decisions when pop-ups show a shadow with…. is it a gun? Is it a child with a toy gun? Anyone reading who thinks THEY would be better at the judgement calls Officers must make?

Yes, there are rogue cops who are no better than the bad guys.

But “arm chair quarterbacking” is usually “played” by people with no skills.

  5. Check his immigration status and deport if illegal. If legal–confiscate his green card so he can’t continue collecting OUR benefits.

  6. Maybe Julia and Hal can cuddle up…(they are the same BTW) and talk about how terible this valley is together…I happen to like it here and enjoy every day…it is sad Hal has so many voices talking to him…kind of reminds me of Norman Bates…scary stuff…

  7. jrm is back with his typical “character assassination” attacks on people and their personalities.

I’d rather see all Commenters contest the ISSUES raised, not the PERSONS participating.
It gets so unpleasant to read through the disparaging “trash talking”–which is a quick effort to silence people and reduce readership of certain articles. Basically a political bullying technique.
Instead of injecting vile and ill-will towards our local persons (no matter any personal opinions are about them, their ideas, or styles of writing), I hope to see more responses to their statements of ideas, concepts, philosophies, and belief systems.

  8. Now, now, psmacintosh… You see, good old Hal likes to inject a little extra oxygen into the fire every now and then; I know because I’ve had a little history with him on these comment sections. That being said, Hal or Julia, whatever name he goes by obviously made a statement ignorant of the facts. He got called out and you defended him. I’m with jrm. I like this area. Now please, just calm down and enjoy this great weather.
