Detectives with the Danville Police Department are looking for witnesses in the weekend break-in at the Veterans Memorial Building construction site, 400 Hartz Ave.

According to Detective Sgt. Allan Shields, the theft was discovered shortly after 8 a.m. Monday morning, when workers arrived on the scene. Police were called and reported that an undisclosed amount of copper wiring, construction tools and other items were taken from the site. Some damage was reported during the theft.

Shields said they are currently investigating the crime, but are also looking for any residents who may have been near the construction site over the weekend and saw or heard anything out of the ordinary.

  1. Those darn recyclers at it again and again. The authorities need to make the recycling companies that buy copper and other scrap metals accountable…if you buy stolen property you pay the price. And believe me the scrap dealers know if the material they are buying is stolen…just look at the seller. You know right off if the low life has 100 or 200 pounds of new copper wire to sell.

    The trouble is the scrap dealer turns a blind eye to the situation and just wants to profit from the deal.

  2. A theft in a building downtown right under the noses of our higly trained polce department ? I am sure our elite police force would have nailed someone doing 38 in a 35 mph zone though !

  3. I heard a rumor that it was the Town council that stoled the Large beautiful REDWOOD TREES.
    Worth much more than the tools and copper wire to the people that walk and talk and visit Danville to shop the shops and eat and drink in the coffee shops and bars..
