Police don’t expect to find foul play in the apparent drowning death of a Pleasanton woman on Sunday.

The 61-year-old woman was found at her home in the 6000 block of Garner Court at about 5:30 p.m., said Pleasanton police Sgt. Kurt Schlehuber.

“She was found by her sister-in-law,” Schlehuber said. “There were no signs of foul play.”

The woman’s name is being withheld until family members are notified.

He said the coroner has the woman’s body and will perform an autopsy. Barring anything unusual, Schlehuber said, the death will be ruled accidental.

  1. Guess I’m not sure why the person’s age was included in this tragic story.

Would you have said a 45-year-old woman? How about a 23-year-old woman?

What sort of implication are we supposed to draw (IF ANY) from the age of the person?

  2. Rick,

The victim’s age is relevant and there should be no implication or connotation associated with that piece of information. It is policy to publish the age of a victim if that information is given by officials — we would publish the age of a 45 and 23-year-old victim as well — as well as gender.
