On Wednesday, Pacific Gas and Electric Company announced that it signed a 10-year lease for additional space at Bishop Ranch to build a state-of-the-art gas control center. The 145,000 square foot facility at 6111 Bollinger Canyon Road will employ approximately 700 staff from gas operations and electric transmission operations.
“The expansion of PG&E’s footprint at Bishop Ranch further reinforces its continuous improvement effort to ensure public and staff safety and improve reliability and operational performance,” a release stated.
PG&E will occupy two and a half floors of a five story building while approximately 260 electric transmission operations staff from Oakland, Concord and San Francisco, along with 450 gas staff, will occupy the second, third and fourth floors. Relocation from other offices is scheduled for mid-2013.
PG&E determined that its electric transmissions operations would be enhanced by relocating from the aging building at 1919 Webster Street in Oakland to a more modern and larger office. The Bishop Ranch will house electric transmission line and substation engineering and design, system protection, system automation, project management and asset strategy functions. The center will be responsible for monitoring PG&E’s network of gas distribution and transmission pipelines 24 hours a day; the new facility is in addition to the 250,000 square foot space leased at 6121 Bollinger Canyon Road.
Gas operations began staff relocation in September.
