Danville’s Role Players Ensemble is set to stage a classic story of obsession, greed and passion when it presents “The Great Gatsby” through the end of the month.
Adapted from American author F. Scott Fitzgerald’s 1925 novel, the local production opens this Friday and runs until May 1 at the Village Theatre in downtown Danville.
The story follows young salesman Nick Carraway (played by Dallas Carter) and his budding friendship with eccentric and mysterious millionaire Jay Gatsby (portrayed by Adam Niemann), who leads a life of glamor and excess in the Roaring ’20s but remains obsessed with a former flame, flapper socialite Daisy Buchanan (played by Stephanie Neuerburg).
“Fitzgerald’s timeless commentary on the American dream reminds us all of the danger in reaching so far that we lose sight of where we came from and who we are,” Role Players Ensemble representatives said.
The play, adapted for the stage by Simon Levy, is directed by Eric Fraisher Hayes and also features actors Kyle Goldman, Samantha Behr, Tiffanie Moore, Randal Chun, Aaron Malberg, Cynthia Lagodsinski, Kim Doppe and Cesar Reyes.
The Role Players’ production is being performed Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m. at the Village Theatre, 233 Front St. For tickets or other information, call 314-3400 or visit the group’s website.
