At the onset of this health crisis, we were humbled and grateful when hundreds of readers stepped up to help us by becoming subscribing members ... That lifted our spirits and words cannot express how thankful we are.
December 30, 2020 | No comments yetThis holiday season like no other in our history. So many of our neighbors are experiencing food insecurity, homelessness, health concerns and loss, and it is heartbreaking.
December 26, 2020 | No comments yetAt the local level in the Tri-Valley, the 2020 election results certified at the beginning of this month brought a unique mix of change and continuity, depending on where (and how) you look ...
December 17, 2020 | No comments yetKind words and a bit of encouragement go a long way in these extremely difficult times. Let's remember that as these newly elected or re-elected officials step up to lead. And be good to one another.
November 5, 2020 | No comments yetVoters should elect board members with a range of perspective and a campaign centered around fresh, informed ideas to improve SRVUSD into the future. Those candidates are newcomers Shelley Clark in Area 2 and Scott Roberts in Area 3.
October 18, 2020 | 10 commentsLegislative experience, actionable priorities and institutional knowledge are vital for 2021 and beyond. Vote to re-elect Rebecca Bauer-Kahan (Assembly), Steve Glazer (State Senate), and Mark DeSaulnier and Eric Swalwell (Congress).
October 16, 2020 | 2 commentsDanville is well-managed, with a balanced budget and no unfunded liability, and a lot of the credit goes toward its current leadership. Vote for incumbents Newell Arnerich and Renee Morgan and newcomer Dave Fong for Town Council.
October 13, 2020 | 10 commentsWith three at-large seats on the ballot, the best candidates to lead on the San Ramon Valley Fire Protection Board of Directors for the next four years are incumbents H. Jay Kerr and Matt Stamey, and challenger Michelle Lee.
October 14, 2020 | No comments yetSan Ramon Valley voters need to help elect a District 1 board representative focused on prudent fiscal decision-making while also committing to achieve Tri-Valley priorities. That candidate is incumbent Director Debora Allen.
October 12, 2020 | No comments yetIn a crucial election this fall, we recommend voters elect Dave Hudson as mayor of San Ramon, Sridhar Verose in City Council District 3 and Scott Perkins for City Council District 1.
October 12, 2020 | 3 commentsThe CCCCD Governing Board is clearly in need of new leadership, and Ward 2 voters should usher in that change by voting for challenger Judy Walters. The future of the district's reputation and leadership structure are at stake.
October 12, 2020 | 1 commentOur editorial staff spends a considerable amount of time and resources helping Tri-Valley voters become that "educated citizenry." In addition to candidate profiles and other news coverage, we are hosting candidate forums this fall.

As we've said before this time of year, contested elections are invaluable. They enhance the public discourse around vital local issues and better engage and educate the electorate.
July 23, 2020 | No comments yetUnfortunately, with the current board -- which can graciously be described as a dysfunctional train wreck -- it will be extraordinarily difficult to find someone able to lead DUSD into the future who is actually willing to take it on.

Council majority's idea for 'action plan' precursor discussion is untenable, so why even try it?
This precursor meeting some time in July, where the council will apparently try to limit public comment to only the draft action plan, seems unnecessary in concept and untenable in practice. Just start the full conversation now.

If readers who value journalism don't step up to support their local newspapers and their websites now, many will become additional victims of the coronavirus crisis.

February 2, 2020 | 40 commentsWith the news last week that a U.S. magistrate has dismissed the family's lawsuit against the federal government, the Kate Steinle case continues to be a disheartening display of injustice.

After nearly 7 months, final batch of public records reveal little about Boozer's sudden departure back in March
It's difficult to believe that it took that long to find three documents. It's easier to believe it took that long to figure out how to hide a multitude of other documents via one of the plethora of exceptions to disclosure ...

Learn from DUSD residents' poor 2019 record. Get out and vote in every election
Public elections demand voter participation. Every vote matters is only relevant if every voter thinks every election matters. It's time for all of the Tri-Valley to always put their ballot where their mouth is.

New York City is more than 2,500 miles from the San Ramon Valley, but it didn't seem that far away on Sept. 11, 2001. Just about everyone lost something that day.

June 20, 2019 | No comments yetMany municipalities in the Tri-Valley are being forced to adopt district-based elections or risk being sued, which could result in costs of millions of dollars from a likely unwinnable case.

We recommend Yes on Dublin's Measure E. The annual tax of just $96 provides vital funding for Dublin students and school programs -- guaranteed revenue for DUSD that will be locally controlled over the next nine years, a time when federal and state education funding priorities could well change.
April 24, 2019 | No comments yetThis banding together approach is unique to the Tri-Valley; we applaud our local councils for being pre-emptive, collaborative and creative in planning to combat this legislation that will give Sacramento control over land-use, with little or no input from the people we elected to represent our local interests.
