County honors Danville senior volunteers

The sixth annual Mary Shockley Award Ceremony was held last month at the Pleasant Hill Community Center to honor 10 people who served as volunteers in our community.

Jennifer Lam-Gorman, nominated by the Chinese American Senior Center, was one of those selected by the Award Committee. She has worked tirelessly for CASC from the time of its inception four-and-a-half years ago and is currently a social dance instructor as well as the club's treasurer. She volunteers at Hap Magee Ranch Park and Danville Senior Center as well as at senior centers in Lafayette and Pleasant Hill.

Representing Danville's Senior Center was Christopher Panton, who has provided leadership for a hiking group that opens new horizons for seniors.

The Culture to Culture Foundation is currently taking nominations for its first Senior Volunteer Awards to be given in the fall. Seniors must be 55 or older and have voluntarily served in some aspect of the community in the last year. To nominate someone, describe the volunteer in 500 words or less and supply at least three references. For more information call 938-9988 or e-mail Entries are due July 31.
