Crosswalk makes safe walk

Workers diverted traffic into one lane on Front Street to allow installation of electrical equipment for the new crosswalk in front of the library Monday.

"It's the newest technology. It took six weeks to get it," said Mike Schratz, director of business operation for Presidio Systems Inc. of Livermore, which was awarded the job in May.

He said signs will light up around the curve north of the crosswalk to warn cars about pedestrians, and the system can also give audio messages.

The crosswalk is costing Danville about $74,000, which will come from capital improvement funds. Schratz estimated the work would be finished Wednesday.
