Know a senior volunteer?

Entries are due July 31 for the Senior Volunteer Awards being offered by the Culture to Culture Foundation, which is based in Alamo and Danville. The awards are being given to focus on what the older generation can do, not what it can't do, say organizers.

To nominate a Contra Costa County senior, 55 or older, who has voluntarily served in some aspect of the community in the last year, describe his or her activities in 500 words or less and supply three references with telephone numbers. The four winners will receive a $250 cash prize and a plaque at an awards ceremony in the fall.

Judges include representatives from Contra Costa for Every Generation, the county's Area Agency on Aging, local senior centers and the Danville Weekly.
