Danville kids donate 'Packs with Love'

Madison and Mackinsey Mascali, ages 11 and 8, are asking people to donate their old backpacks to give to underprivileged students in Richmond schools.

The girls started their own outreach program, "Packs with Love," last year when they learned that 300 kids will start the school year without many of the supplies they need to succeed. They collected, cleaned and donated 240 backpacks filled with school supplies to give to students on the first day of school.

This year the sisters are again collecting backpacks, as well as pencils, markers, crayons and other supplies to stuff in them. They will hold a "stuff the packs with supplies" day in late August, and they encourage other kids to join them and see how good it feels to help others.

To donate a backpack or supplies or help stuff the packs, e-mail packswithlove@yahoo.com or call 648-0762.
