Hebrew School relocating in Danville

The Hebrew School of Chabad of Contra Costa will be held Sunday mornings at the Athenian School in Danville for the upcoming 2008-09 school year. It was being held at the small Chabad facility in Walnut Creek.

"We have had such an increase in interest that we have outgrown our classroom capacity," said Shternie Kagan, school director. "We are looking forward to the beautiful, spacious classrooms at Athenian to enhance the learning experience for our youth."

Chabad has been using the Athenian School campus as its home base for Camp Gan Israel for the last several years.

The Hebrew School is enrolling children entering kindergarten through seventh grade. It provides the youngest children with their first taste of the Hebrew Aleph-bet, Torah tales and Jewish prayer through song and holiday studies.

"The child gains a sense of pride and love for Judaism," Kagan said. "Older children will enjoy the multi-sensory, hands-on lessons about Israel, Jewish History and Jewish values. They will learn to read and write Hebrew."
