Soccer players converge on Danville for annual tournament

Notice any soccer players over the weekend? There were even more than usual as 178 girls teams converged on Danville for the 30th annual Girls Mustang Stampede Tournament held Aug. 8-11.

The older girls took over the Mustang Soccer Complex on Camino Tassajara while younger players used other synthetic and natural turf facilities, playing at seven sites throughout Danville.

Three Mustang teams won their divisions: U17 Spirit; U14 Blast; and U11 Explosion.

The U19 Mavericks faced the Belmont Oaks Barracudas in the finals but lost 2-1.

Mustang Soccer Club is the No. 1-ranked girls soccer club in Northern California and the No. 2-ranked girls soccer club nationwide. The Stampede is a Division I, US Club sanctioned soccer tournament for girls U9 to U18/19.

The Mustang Boys Stampede will take place Aug. 22-24.
