Kicking off the Christmas season

Danville residents will gather downtown on Diablo Road the day after Thanksgiving for the annual Lighting of the Old Oak Tree. Festivities begin at 5:15 p.m. as neighboring businesses open their doors to serve hot drinks and cookies. Music will be provided by the San Ramon Valley High School Chorus and the Danville Girls Chorus under the direction of Ken Abrams from 5:15-6:15 p.m.

Father Christmas and the Snow Angel will join in the festivities and help light the tree at approximately 6:30 p.m. The magic continues downtown afterward as the merchants welcome residents to enjoy refreshments and view their wares. Musical entertainment will also be featured downtown.

Shannon B. Jones, this year's chairwoman for the Danville Tree Lighting, has offered her law offices at 300 Diablo Road as a designated drop-off location for Toys for Tots. Toys for children in need can be left the night of the tree lighting or any time through Dec. 21.

Street closures for Diablo Road will begin from 2-2:30 p.m. and on Prospect and Hartz and part of Front Street from 3:30-4 p.m. Time limits for parking will not be enforced this evening.
