Role Players Ensemble to show off 'Underpants'

In keeping with their season so far, the Role Players Ensemble Theatre company continues to showcase plays that feature incisive wit coupled with social commentary. Following up on the fall dramatic production of "The Best Man," Role Players is turning to the comedic vein. Starting Jan. 16, the theater company will be putting on "The Underpants," comedian Steve Martin's adaptation of Carl Sternheim's 1910 comedy.

"The Underpants" is a satire on bourgeois manners and customs, bringing into sharp focus the hypocrisy that often accompanies them.

The comedy begins with an unfortunate "wardrobe malfunction" befalling a young housewife, her husband's shocked reaction and the hilarity that ensues.

Artistic Director Sue Trigg directs the new show and has assembled a cast of faces familiar to fans of Role Players, including Bonnie DeChant, John Blytt and Craig Eychner.

Shows will run at the Village Theatre, 233 Front St., at 8 p.m. Thursdays through Saturdays and 2 p.m. Sunday through Feb. 7.
