Youth coming together to fight hunger

Groups in the Danville area will be collecting food in the seventh annual Youth Food Drive, scheduled for the first week in March with collection of the food on Saturday, March 7. All of the food collected from the Danville and Alamo areas will be donated to the Monument Crisis Center in Concord. The center services more than 1,600 families in central Contra Costa County, which equals 6,500 people every month.

Cadette Girl Scouts Hannah Wald, Alisia Martinez and Julia Francone are organizing the food drive for their Silver Award project. Residents should look for bags at their front doors the first week in March and are asked to fill up the bags with food and place them on the front porch by 9 am. Donations also can be dropped off between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. at Greenbrook Elementary School.

San Ramon Valley High School and Tassajara Hills Elementary are signed up to help, as well as 20 Girl Scout Troops. Other Scouts, youth groups, schools, individuals and groups of friends in the area who want to participate can contact Shirley Bull at 837-9287 or e-mail
