Devil Mountain Run this weekend

The 32nd Workday Devil Mountain Run takes place Sunday, May 3, an event for serious runners and for families that directly supports Children's Hospital & Research Center Oakland. The 5K/10K run attracts approximately 3,000 participants including top runners. Walking enthusiasts can find their pace on one of the two flat and fast courses along the Iron Horse Trail.

Both the 5K and 10K courses start together at 8 a.m. on Railroad Avenue at Prospect in front of the Museum of the San Ramon Valley. The 5K and 10K are both fast and flat although the 10K has a modest hill at 2 miles. Just after the start, the 5K splits and heads north toward Alamo, then returns via the Iron Horse Trail. The 10K goes south; just past the 3-mile mark, it hits the Iron Horse Trail, heading back north, all the way to downtown Danville.

Fees to register the day of the race, by check or cash only, are $37 for adults. Weekend registration takes place:

* Saturday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m., at Forward Motion Sports, 432 Harz Ave.

* Sunday, 6:30-7:45 a.m., at Lunardi's Parking Lot on Railroad Avenue at Prospect

Ages 3 to 8 years old also can join in non-competitive 50- to 100-yard dashes, which are run in heats grouped by age. The Kids Run costs $15; children are awarded a T-shirt, finisher ribbon and prizes.
