Pittsburg school closed due to swine flu cases

Highlands Elementary School in Pittsburg was closed Wednesday in response to three students who had been diagnosed with probable cases of the swine flu, said Contra Costa Health Services spokeswoman Kate Fowlie. The school will remain closed until May 6. San Ramon Valley Unified School District spokesman Terry Koehne said that although there are no cases of the illness it is sending information home to educate parents on the best way to keep from contracting the illness or spreading it.

Jelissa Walker, an infectious diseases nurse at San Ramon Regional Medical Center, said Tuesday the hospital hasn't had anyone come in with flu-like symptoms, but the hospital has a healthy stock of Tamiflu, which has effectively treated swine flu cases.
