Faz hosting memorial for artist Phil Hellsten

Faz restaurant on Hartz Avenue in Danville is hosting a memorial service beginning at 6 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 20, for artist Phil Hellsten, who died suddenly June 23 at age 57 from heart problems. It will have food and music, including saxophonist Pete Yellin, who plays regularly at Yoshi's Jazz Club, located in Oakland and San Francisco, and for Jazz at Peace in Danville.

During jam sessions that were held at the Pioneer Art Gallery and at salon nights, Hellsten would go to Faz to pick up pizzas that were given to the musicians and artists, said Diana Busse, a musician friend who performed at his memorial service at Peace Lutheran. Faz Poursohi wanted to do something in remembrance of Phil, Busse said.
