Ace is in place

Ace Hardware opened Thursday, Aug. 13, in Alamo, to the delight of residents who have wanted another full service hardware store to open after the longtime Yardbirds closed in summer 2006, then the Home Depot Yardbirds closed in January.

"We did pretty good today," said sales associate Arden Campbell as the employees counted up the receipts shortly after 8 p.m.

The formal opening was Friday, when customers were welcomed with donuts and coffee.

Ace announced in May that it was opening in the vacated location in Las Trampas Center on Danville Boulevard. The 10,000-square-foot garden center opened in June. The new Ace has 27,000 square foot with an open floor plan. It has hired some employees that were employed by Yardbirds and Home Depot.

Hours are 7 a.m.-8 p.m. Monday-Saturday; and 8 a.m.-6 p.m. Sunday.
