California High School in San Ramon has a 30 minute tutorial period in the middle of the day for students to get extra help. They either stay in the class they are already in and do homework, or they get a pass to go to a teacher for help in a different class. I think it is a much better plan than at the end of the day, all students benefit. By having this "7th period" at the end of the day, I'm afraid SRVHS will find that it will lack some punch because students will look at it as an opportunity to leave school early.
I wonder why Mr. Enoch doesn't mention this in his interview and says that SRVHS is the first high school do do guided learning? Cal High has done it for 2 years, with success.

I like the idea of this happening during the school day instead of at the end. I look at it as more of an economic stimulus plan as most of the kids are not required to attend 7th period so they leave school early and hang out downtown until their parents can arrange to come and pick them up. I wonder how much Starbuck's business has picked up.
