Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

A large-scale simulated emergency scenario will be taking place Saturday, Sept. 25 as members of the San Ramon Valley Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) train for the real thing.

The test is designed to give CERT members an opportunity to hone skills and test preparedness in an earthquake along the Hayward Fault. Crews will be instructed to respond as though an earthquake had caused major damage throughout the area.

Dozens of CERT personnel from Danville, San Ramon, Alamo and other unincorporated areas of the valley will roam through neighborhoods wearing green vests and helmets, conducting assessments. They will communicate to their local Emergency Operations Center by using the Amateur Radio Operators.

Reports say that drills like these are vital, “as studies have shown that the most crucial element to managing any emergency is utilizing effective communication tools and skills.”

  1. Simulated drills are good training tools. But if you really want to assess preparedness hold one with out announcing in advance your going to hold it.

So true however when you were going to school did you ever have fire drills? Well consider this one of those. Study for your final exam because you’ll most likely have only one chance to get a passing grade. Good luck!

  3. Hey Folks,

Did you ever consider what it might be like if such a drill was not announced in advance? It can be a lot of freaky. Been there, done that, got the teeshirt. I am a CERT member. The last thing we want to do is freak out the nieghborhood (wherever it is). Relax and go with the flow. Being a little thankful might help too.
