This week's police log

Original post made on Nov 29, 2011

The Danville Police Department provides Danville Express with a record of its calls each week. This is a sampling, omitting the more mundane, such as routine traffic stops, service requests, noise complaints and domestic disturbances.

This is not precise, but it implies a gun being fired at random, or recklessly, at a time & place no gun should be fired. I.E., there is no shooting range in the 400 block of Sycamore Circle so there is no valid reason for anyone discharging bullets.
It's really too bad the police are never able to find these morons. If only their neighbors would turn in the culprits. God bless the NRA for ensuring idiots have continued access to firearms.

Thanks for the question regarding promiscuous shootings.

If I can take a second, I’d like to just clarify that when the police log reflects a ‘promiscuous shooting’ it means that someone has reported hearing something which could be construed as a gunshot. The reality is that in many cases these sounds turn out to be such things as fireworks or car backfires.

The majority of reports of this nature investigated by Danville Police are determined to be unfounded. There are few, if any, cases where an actual weapon was found to have been fired.

Since there was some concern displayed on these threads on the number of such reports that show up in the police log, we thought it would be best to explain that in most cases, the noise heard was not a gunshot.

Hope this helps, have a great day!
