Ms. Fluke---having chosen a Catholic University, was arguing to the Democratic caucus why her birth control etc. SHOULD be paid for by gov/taxpayers. She has turned out to be an activist plant trying to "cram" her socialist agenda down everyone's "throats"---lol!

The coverage is paid-for by the school and the student, period. The Feds are just requiring that contraception be offered as part of the plan.

This is a very simple issue to analyze. Unfortunately, both the liberal left, and extreme right, are trying to "spin" the matter and make it something that it is not.

First, Rush Limbaugh was wrong to call this lady a "prostitute", and name calling serves no purpose, and detracts from the issue. For that alone, Rush Limbaugh needed to apologize.

However, it is ridiculous that an adult woman who voluntarily attends a Catholic Law School should expect the Catholic Law School to subsidize her birth control. She is obviously an intelligent woman, to get into Georgetown Law School, an extremely competitive and top law school. She obviously knew that a Catholic Law School would not cover her birth control, and it would seem that she may have deliberately jumped into this fray, hoping to make a name for herself with the liberal left wing. Nobody is stopping her from going to Walmart and spending $10 for a box of condoms. I am sure she spends at least that amount each week at Starbucks. As a law student, she obviously should also know that there is absolutely no constitutional right that requires a private, Catholic Law School to provide birth control for her.

If this Catholic Law School covered birth control only for married people, than she could make an effective argument that there is a marital status discrimination policy, which would violate the rational basis test and be problematic for the Law School. However, this school does not provide birth control for anyone, regardless of race, religion, maritial status, or sexual preference, and thus there is clearly no constitutional violation.

What is next, will some pawn of the far left attend BYU Law School, a Mormon university, and argue that their student insurance must cover a sex change operation?

In summary, I feel bad that this lady had to deal with the far right calling her inappropriate names, and judging her moral values. They were wrong. I also feel bad that this fine Catholic University is getting the heat from the liberals for doing absolutely nothing wrong, and simply acting in accordance with their long standing religious convictions and religious beliefs. There is absolutely no constitutinal violation. I also think it is wrong that President Obama is trying to make this into an "attack on woman" political issue, and wrongly trying to use this for his own political ambitions. For that, President Obama should apologize, and not add fuel to this fire.

@Danville, and yet, the law student who spoke regarding her views on birth control coverage had a right to express that opinion without being attacked by Rush Limbaugh (or anyone else). To me, that is the heart of the matter - not my views on whether I agree with her position or not.

I was on a road trip recently and the only radio station I could pick up was broadcasting Limbaugh's show and I listened for about 10 minutes, that was about all I could take. It is amazing to me this guy can get out of bed and spew this bile day after day, no wonder he became a drug addict. As previously posted, he certainly has a right to free speech, and I had the right to simply turn off the dial, that's the way the system works. And now the system is working again, his sponsors and select radio station are simply turning off the dial on Rush, one by one. As a parent of a daughter (which Rush is not, by the way) I found his comments particularly offensive. I hope the system works, the market forces and economics will prevail and he can join Glenn Beck, Dr. Laura and others in a comfortable retirement somewhere.

What is this fixation that the right seems to have with throats and cramming things down them? We see this analogy in right-wing commentary and postings all the time - even here.

Ms Fluke---not a "lady" by any definition...chose to put her sordid fornicating out there by speaking to the dem caucus. Requesting that others subsidize her bed-hopping did open her up (pun) to comments. That some comments were harsh--- oh well.. Get over it.

I agree with Sue. There are many women who do not ascribe to Fluke's advertisement of immorality. Seems she is an activist operative anyway. Why did she choose a Catholic university?? Two words---Bill Maher.

Ms. Fluke was NOT asking the university to subsidize her birth control. She was asking that it be included in the policy SHE pays for.

FYI: B/C pills are often used for medical reasons, not just contraception, but the university would deny them to all. The insurance companies are not opposed to this requirement, by the way.

The best way to handle a blowhard like Limbaugh is ignore him. He has 15 million weekly listeners, or about 0.05% of the population. Practically no one listens to him anyway.

People like Tom Cushing keep this story alive in part because an extremist like Limbaugh makes Republicans look out of touch. It a distraction. He hopes people will focus on a silly story like this rather than substantive issues.

The big story this week should be that the CBO now estimates the 10 year cost of Obamacare is $1.76 trillion, not the $900 billion Obama promised when he rammed it down our throats. We’ll now have to raise an extra $860 billion in the next 10 years through increased taxes and cuts to things like Social Security and Medicare.

Tom’s hoping people won’t focus Obama’s flaws. Here’s hoping voters are a little brighter than that.

Nor does Cardinal subscribe to the hysterical mythology that this situation involves taxpayer funds -- it does not.
