Yet another accident with a potential death this time...
What's going on you might ask.

They should spend $62,000 to put in a stop sign and median. Just like they did on Lawrence Road (where no one struck a house, just went through a fence).

Allegedly? The " justice" system is impotent.
A kid who didn't pass a sobriety test crashed the car he was driving into someone's house. Driver, car, house. What can be "alleged?" What will " lustice" negotiate?

Huh. MY kids also started with stationary objects, but they were things like trees and parking lot signage. Then again, my kids were sober at the time.

Again w/ you people supporting the drunk driver, & NOT THE VICTIMS! Wtf?! Why the excuses of no stop signs, meridians, blah blah! That doesn't matter here, point blank the underage driver was drunk driving! It's HIS FAULT, not the invisible stop signs/meridians.. No parental control in this town! [Removed because it was inappropriate]

This is a no-brainer. No need for attorneys to take a chunk of money. That kids parents beed to cough up money to pay for and all the damages...including PG&E employee time to check for the gas leak and any repair associated with the accident. Lets hope his parents don't run out and get him another car. This may sound harsh but it is a far less punishment than taking a life. His family should be welcoming of this kind of burden. On top of everything else, he should apologize to every single family that was evacuated in person and offer community service of a couple of hours of his time to each family. Let him learn how to mow a lawn, trim shrubs, build a fence, paint/stain a fence...etc. That might help him become a better citizen. Allowing him to be accountable for his actions.

I feel sorry for this teen.
Not because of the drunk driving incident. He deserves to get the book thrown at him for that.
I feel sorry for him because of his name.
Isn’t Shae a girl name?
This kid’s going to have a rough time going through life with a girl name.
Why don’t parents give their kids normal names anymore?

Wow most of you sound like you have never made a mistake before! Don't assume you know everything about how this young man was raised. These comments are offensive to me as they are so judgmental. There is even a comment about his first name..like that is any of your business.

This could have ended far worse. Hopefully the young man sees this as a major wake up call. I dont know him or his family but wish all involved the best going forward. To all here who wish to judge remember that people in glass houses should throw no stones.

What’s wrong with being offensive and judgmental? It’s real.
If you are honest with yourself, you would realize that you have offensive and judgmental thoughts too. You just choose not to share them.
Some of us enjoy hearing unvarnished viewpoints in an anonymous internet forum. We hate bull crap and crave authenticity.
No one’s forcing you to read these comments. If you’re trying to avoid offensive and judgmental material, you should probably avoid the internet.
I’m sorry that kid’s got a girl name. But parents need to know that if they give their kid a goofy name, that kid is likely to get teased his whole life, have low self-esteem, and probably turn to alcohol to console his sorrow, which could lead to a DUI.
So one moral of this story could be that the number of DUIs might decrease if everyone stopped giving kids goofy names.
I'm just trying to help.

The irony of this coming from a person calling him/herself Herman...
People named Mitt or Barack could never be successful....

Spwct/H.G.,
A simple search of the surname will give you sufficient awareness that it's likely Serbian or German which perhaps implies an Austro-Hungarian origin. How do you define 'goofy' when it comes to exhibiting such cultural ignorance?
Must be a slow day at the firm. Surely, there must be an ambulance or two to chase around here somewhere?

I'm sorry Tom, you're suggesting that we not judge this young man who has proven to be the one who was drunk and slammed into someone's house. I think my recommendation for community service and some embarrassment by apologilzing to the neighbors would be good for him. Since he couldn't possibly have the money to pay for everything himself, this would be a good lesson that goes along with our hope that he is remorseful..

Unlike you posters who do not know the boy or his family, I do. They are fantastic, kind, caring people. Before you pick up your pitchforks, let's wait for criminal justice system to bring out facts and evidence. Knowing the boy and his family, nobody feels more remorse and sorry about this than they do. He may have made a mistake, but he is 18, and has a full life in front of him. Let's not judge anyone by the worst thing they do in their life, but by totality of their life. He is a good boy, from a good family, and I will keep them in my prayers, just like I will pray for victims.

I don't care who you know. Shai is a legal adult and is responsible for the harm he visits upon the world.
He was drunk, destroyed private property, and that's against the law.
I don't care if his family feels remorseful. He's a drunk driver and he placed other motorists at risk. Fortunately, nobody lost his/her life. I'm glad that Shae survived.
At age 18, Shae is hardly a "boy". He's old enough to fight in a war and kill the "enemy". Shae is considered a legal adult male. NOT A BOY!
I ask that the court hold Shae accountable for his behavior that placed the lives of innocent others at high risk. He deserves to be held accountable for his crimes. NO MERCY!

I strongly believe in educating the public about driving under the influence:

I am happy to know that Shae is alive and that nobody will killed by his wreckless driving.

SRV Doug is a registered user.
Cholo,
You need some perspective. Yes, he is 18. Having had 3 kids graduate from SRV in recent years, and been involved in some school activities, I do know this young man and his brother.
I will never defend drunk driving, and thank God nobody was injured. Having been around so many 18 yr old kids the past several years, most of them are "boys" and not men. Yes, he is old enough to register for the draft, but that's it! Most 18 yr olds are adults by legal definition, but not in terms of actual physical, mental or emotional maturity. Believe me, these are 18 yr old kids!
Shae screwed up. He knows that, so does his family and all those in the SRV community who know him and his family. I don't know of their financial means and their ability to pay for these damages. I am sure they will stand up and be accountable.
NO MERCY! Really! Like I said thank God nobody else was harmed or killed. This young man will be punished, but there is no reason to hold him back as he pursues his college and post-high school education. He will definitely have his license suspended for at least a year, and undergo alcohol/drug rehabilitation/education classes. I am sure other measures will be taken as well to help him out. Hopefully, this is huge wake up call for this young man, and all the young men and women in the SRV, MV, Alamo and Danville communities.
I am not defending Shae's behavior and his decision making, but I can speak from personal experience on the effects that drunk driving can have on a family. It is a devastating experience for everyone involved. My brother and sister made this mistake, and were better and more responsible people after their incidents at much younger ages.
