Where were the San Ramon Police this Morning

Original post made by Jim, San Ramon, on Sep 5, 2014

Before anyone says it, I support the police. However, my question is "where were they this morning when the traffic lights on Bollinger Canyon were flashing red at Bishop Ranch 1. I came home at midnight from a late meeting and the lights were flashing then. The SRPD and I imagine the city knew there was a problem. Today I went to work at 8:00am and they were still flashing. It took me 20+ minutes to get from Alcosta to the freeway. Traffic was backed up over the hill into Dougherty Valley. Is the SRPD too proud to spend some time directing traffic during the heavy commute. Heaven forbid an ambulance needed to get through. All the lanes where completely backed up, side streets too. This was not their finest hour. I'd make the morning doughnut shop comment or that they don't do anything that involves getting out of their squad car but that would be rude.

If it were me Jim? I would have picked up the phone or driven by the police department (as I have done both over the years when needed) and simply ASKED what was going on. IF you truly support them? In this case, wouldn't it be best to give them the benefit of the doubt by asking them directly for an explanation? Hm.

Whoever has been in charge of the lights on Bollinger for the last 25 years has to be the most brain-dead, incompetent, useless person or group of people that has ever lived. They have never worked properly. EVER.
There is a set, specific way to program the controls for lights and the street sensors, but no one in San Ramon ever took the class. So the lights having a problem for a mere eight hours is hardly news.

Fine, forget about the whining for a minute Cholo. Aren't you a progressive left-leaning pinko like me? If so, consider how many tens of thousands of gallons of gas are wasted over the years when drivers miss one light on Bollinger or Crow. Once you do, better break out the picnic basket, because you will be sitting endlessly at every single light the rest of the way to 680 or past Alcosta.
This is something I have been observing since before 1990. Whoever is in charge of the stoplight programming definitely has lots of relatives in places like Livermore and Menlo Park and Oakland. It takes a special kind of dolt to do a relatively simple job this badly, and to keep on doing it badly for decades.
