The San Ramon City Council is set to consider approving a letter Tuesday in support of the Dublin San Ramon Services District (DSRSD) purchasing supplemental water from Yuba County to help with drought supplies this year.

The proposed support letter would be directed to the Zone 7 Water Agency, which supplies water to DSRSD and opposes DSRSD’s plan to acquire 1,500 acre-feet of water from the Yuba County Water Agency.

“We have learned through this (current drought) experience that the old ways of doing things no longer adequately work and that we all must look for creative ways to secure our water supply for the future,” the draft letter states, in part. “We are very dismayed to also learn that Zone 7 is opposing this (DSRSD) purchase.”

DSRSD provides potable water service to the Dougherty Valley area of San Ramon.

The council will consider signing off on the support letter as part of Tuesday’s regular council meeting, scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. inside the council chambers at 2222 Camino Ramon.

  1. Has anyone in the town council ever considered that each new house built adds to the water demand?? The existing residents are all under extreme pressure to conserve only to see the water saved being sold to all the new housing units. I’m not opposed to growth, but it needs to be controlled and adequate supplies of water and electricity, as well as schools, etc. should be considered before blindly approving all the development to simply add to the tax base.

  2. I’m curious and not at all knowledgeable about this.I not o ly grew up in Yuba County but still have family there. I dont understand how you would get water from them when they are in a drought just as bad as Dublin or the East Bay. Another thing that I dont understand is how you can take water from them when they are a huge agricultural area. Can someone please give me a short list of how this works?
    Thanks

  3. Sure, I can help you understand Theresa, San Ramon has a voracious appetite for development and has to finish building out
before the residents figure out they now live in a latter day San Jose in terms of urban congestion. The Minister of Transportation in Jordan (Samwar something) owns half of Tassajara Valley and he and Sid Corrie want to eliminate all green space. The past mayor of Danvile, Doug Offenhartz , had to pay a $60,000 fine to atone for his shenanigans. He now lives in Walnut Creek….any questions?
