The San Ramon Police Department sang the praises of two officers who provided key medical assistance to a man suffering a heart attack Sunday, marking the second straight weekend San Ramon officers helped save someone facing a health emergency.
The latest situation unfolded Sunday morning, when Cpl. Michael Schneider and Officer Sophia Wrangham responded to the tennis courts near the Olympic Pool on Broadmoor Drive after receiving a report of a man experiencing a heart attack, according to a post on the SRPD Facebook page.
The officers arrived and found a doctor at the scene already administering CPR on the 45-year-old man, according to SRPD. Schneider responded by using the automated external defibrillator (AED) he brought from his patrol car.
Wrangham and Schneider soon took over and continued life-saving measures until San Ramon Valley Fire Protection District personnel arrived, according to SRPD. Fire personnel then transported the man to San Ramon Regional Medical Center, where he is recovering, police said.
The incident at the tennis courts occurred one week to the day after Wrangham and two other colleagues — one on-duty, one off-duty — aided a 70-year-old man who collapsed and was non-responsive at ClubSport San Ramon off Bollinger Canyon Road.
Officers also used an AED and administered CPR during the July 10 incident until fire district personnel arrived, took over and transported the 70-year-old man to the hospital for treatment.
Thank you SRPD for being there. So good to have the AEDs available, too.
Ok….police officers did the right thing, but isn’t the doctor the real saver of this person’s life? Just my opinion.
I don’t know, tell us Mister Watcher, did he have his handy AED with him? Or are you just trying to grind your ax?
San Ramon is a great community. Besides the top notch schools, the real draw is the feeling of safety. This wouldn’t be possible without the efforts of our police and fire departments. These men and women work hard to make sure we are and remain safe!.
Think the sequence of events:
Man goes down while playing tennis –
Dr. is their and starts administering CPR – Dr. already diagnosed a potential heart attack –
911 call made, usually describing what is potentially happening –
Police show up first, before ambulance?, and bring their equipment to the court that would be used in a potential heart attack – this is what they do.
No mention of the Doctors name? Only the police?
Police are great here in San Ramon. Just thought it was odd they did not mention the Dr. who saved this man’s life on the court before police arrived.

Isn’t that what a doctor does too? Have you ever considered that maybe they didn’t get the doctors name? I read the article as a testament to great teamwork, CPR and AED use resulting in a saved life. (one by an off duty cop in the other story) Two of those incidents in a week results in two people being saved! In a time when cops get slammed for everything, I think its great hearing about the awesome stuff they do.

I would love to know the name of this doctor who jumped in and saved this man’s life.
The San Ramon Police Department is really great, but this doctor seriously should have been acknowledged. Most heart attack victims die while waiting for emergency personnel. This doctor jumped in and saved his life.
