The Reutlinger Community, a senior living facility in Danville, will join the Lamorinda Arts Council to honor the works of local artists between 80 and 99 years old during a reception Sunday afternoon.

The free public event, set to run from 2-4 p.m. at The Reutlinger, will also feature a screening of a video of the artists’ “Around the World at 80” exhibit as well as light refreshments and artwork from the “Opening Minds Through Art” program for people with dementia.

The reception will also feature art calendars created artists in The Reutlinger’s award-winning art program, “Discovering the Artist Within.”

“This program offers residents an opportunity to create art within an inspiring and encouraging atmosphere,” said Betty Rothaus, The Reutlinger’s artist-in-residence.

The art council’s “Around the World at 80” exhibit showed works by octogenarians and nonagenarians in a variety of media including ceramics, sculptures, paintings, collages, stitchery, digital images, wood carvings, batik hand-painted goose eggs, linocuts and etchings, according to Reutlinger officials.

“This gala is a way for the artists to see the video, spend some time with each other and enjoy the art at The Reutlinger Community,” co-curator Elana O’Loskey said. “We are very grateful The Reutlinger is hosting this event.”

Located at 4000 Camino Tassajara with entrance on Parkhaven Drive, The Reutlinger is a nonprofit senior living community that offers assisted living, enhanced assisted living, memory care, skilled nursing and short-term rehabilitation services.

  1. How great that artists 80 years and older – some of whom have dementia – are being feted at this event! Hats off to the 2 org’s that are sponsoring this. And congrats to the artists for creating ‘no matter what.’
