Tell that to the parents of Ben Curry. SRVUSD administration and board members attended a Nov 2017 board meeting. At that board member a teacher who saved a drowning victim at Cal high in Oct 2017 warned that a student was going to drown because of the large PE swim class. That teacher had 47 students and a life guard. Ben Curry drowned May 8,2018 with 57 kids and a lazy PE teacher no lifeguards. So this idea of "see something say something" resulted in zero action from SRVUSD. The lawsuit is going to result in millions of tax dollars spent to defend and settle.

There have been plenty of times when “see something, say something “ has helped. It’s a good practice to teach our kids and community, even if it, sadly, didn’t happen to avert the Ben Curry tragedy.

SRVUSD needs to address the fact that it failed and not just pat itself on the back when it does work. A teacher expressing a concern at a board meeting did not merit a response how is a student expected to believe his concern will be addressed.

But we all know from the response to Ben Curry's death SRVUSD did nothing wrong and no policy changes implemented. The failure of SRVUSD to accept any accountability in the death of student demonstrates a culture of self protection at the expense of the safety of our children.

Whistle-blowers of the world, unite and take over.

This has nothing to do with Ben Curry. Student privacy policies in this case were followed.

If the SRVUSD policy is "see something say something" policy" then why in the world did they hire Keith Rogenski Assistant Superintendent.

Keith was named in a lawsuit at Antioch Unified School District. "School principal Michael Green, district special education director David Wax, assistant superintendent for human resources Keith Rogenski and special education coordinator Kai Montgomery failed to report the allegations to police as required by law and tried to keep parents from reporting their own suspicions." The teacher was physically abusing autistic kindergarten students. The lawsuit cost the school district 8 million dollars.

Keith Rogenski defense of Aaron Becker the PE teacher that walked away from a drowning kid, is another example of his twisted since of loyalty to teachers at the expense of our kids. Keith is a liability to our school district and is behavior is in direct conflict with “The safety of our students is our highest priority,”

As much as this “see something say something” policy may help, all I see is our children turning into tattle tails. Nitpicking at the littlest things and getting someone in trouble for being a normal child. It starts as young as kindergarten in our district. Complaining that somebody does not want to play with you and getting that child in trouble. We should be teaching our children to be strong, not a victim. But, don’t get me wrong, this policy should stay in place for the one time it does something good!

Moderator: You’re entitled to your opinion. That’s the difference between a liberal and a conservative. A conservative will simply say nothing about your harsh words, but you on the other hand will demean, deface, and hurt anyone that disagrees. But go ahead and teach your kids to be weak tattletales instead of strong confident adults.

My comments here have nothing to do with the article. I do not know which side is the victim because I don’t know the story well enough. But I wouldn’t be surprised if Moderator is a feminist that believe all women. But I can tell you, especially here in Danville, women can be the biggest, meanest liars.

Marie - so, just to be clear, between these two options:

A) A high school student sexually assaulting his classmates, or
B) people "being tattletales"

Friend of Marie: I know the reality is teaching children how to be a tattletale, but I do not know the children in the story. If anybody was assaulted, of course, that is worse. Parents need to teach their children to respect one another and to have good VERBAL communication skills.

We are lacking any real leadership at the top of our school district. We have Mr Schmidt as Superintendent and Keith Rogenski, Assistant Superintendent with HR.
Informed people already know about the failures of Mr Schmidt but most have not had interaction with Keith Rogenski who is one of his key people. I cannot think of anyone who would be less qualified to be in Human Resources, let alone heading it. I have had to deal with him, as a parent, and I know others who have had to deal with him also. I won't go into details here but his behavior has been inappropriate and his boss lets him.
We have well paid people overseeing our school district and we should get better for the money we spend.

Keith Rogenski will dismiss any parent complaint in a heart beat. His investigation into complaints are a joke.

Direct quote from Keith "Some criticism has even also been lodged against schools for seemingly supporting and defending their employees at the expense of protecting the health and safety of their students. I believe these concerns are ill-conceived and unfounded." The quote is after fleeing from Antioch School District where he was named in lawsuit with a 8 million dollar settlement for failure to notify the police of a parents complaint of a teacher abusing special needs kindergartens.

A common thread in this discussion is the failure of SRVUSD to handle important issues.
Obviously whoever recruits and hires the leadership at the district office or at some of the local schools are not hiring the best.
There seems to be a pattern of mishandling key situations that goes all the way to the top, whether at the Superintendent level or HR level.
The problem is that the SRVUSD keeps them rather than fire them or at least remove them.
We deserve better.
