After a brief chase on foot through downtown Danville that took police on top of the rooftops of some of the businesses along East Prospect Avenue, Danville police officers were able to arrest a Dublin man suspected of stealing a car, according to the Danville Police Department.

In a social media post published on the DPD’s Facebook page, police say the town’s automatic license plate reader system registered a hit on a stolen vehicle in town at approximately 8:27 a.m. on Friday morning.

After locating the vehicle at the Chevron station in downtown Danville, police witnessed the suspect — later identified as 34-year-old Dublin resident Sidney Clifford Hill — trying to pull away and flee, before quickly abandoning the car and attempting to escape on foot.

Police say Hill — who was wanted on a warrant for failure to appear on a burglary charge — was arrested after police were able to surround the man following a short foot chase through downtown.

After the chase Hill was booked into the Martinez Detention Facility on charges of possession of a stolen car, possession of stolen property, possession of burglary tools, resisting arrest and probation violation.

Police Chief Allan Shields praised the efforts of the officers, saying he was was very pleased with how quickly officers were able to surround and capture Hill, further adding that the town’s automatic license plate reader system continues to benefit police and the Danville community.

  1. Good work Danville PD. At least this guy will be off the streets for a short period before he is released so that he can reoffend.
