This cop is a danger to our community. And that headline is an insult to the memory of a man who has had enough challenges in his life. Let’s investigate this police officer and I don’t want to hear from the whiny grievance culture people who claim I am disrespecting police officers and he was in his rights. No other police officer has killed anyone in Danville in years and this guy has now killed two in 2 years. He is the problem and get him off the streets

I could not agree with you more! And furthermore we as citizens need to make sure that the Sheriff's Dept. "makes good" on this statement:

"The Office of the Sheriff recognizes the impact an event like this can have on the community and is committed to full transparency of all the facts. Sheriff's investigators continue to work with the District Attorney's Office on investigating this incident pursuant to the countywide law enforcement involved fatal incident protocol,"

Furthermore, from the original article, it appears that more than two years after the fact, The DA's office STILL has not reached a conclusion in the first case in which this officer took a citizen's life. So much for the comments regarding "transparency" above. It seems to me that in the time that has elapsed, they should have had ample time to complete their investigation and provide the results, to those of us who have had to live around Officer Hall in the meantime. Lastly, it leaves me wondering just what the end game here really is, and I can't help but being left with the feeling that like so many issues where our "public servants" are concerned, that the game plan may well be to see if they can sweep this under the rug by running out the clock! Transparency is a good word to throw around, but it would seem to be a hard one to live by when it comes to our Sheriff's Dept.

Justice needs to be fair, but it also needs to be swift!

A criminal who was committing acts that could have killed or seriously injured innocent motorist ignored this officer's command to surrender, and instead he escalated the situation by pulling out a knife on the officer and going at him in attack mode, so in self defense this officer shot this criminal one time. The officer's cam photo, which we all have seen, confirms this. Yet, you people want to condemn & terminate this officer for risking his life to protect you and other complete strangers! This is Danville, not San Francisco, and majority of citizens support & appreciate our officers, and use common sense, not anti-cop rhetoric, in analyzing these situations. Danville, unlike San Francisco, is second safest town in CA, as when the citizens & police support each other, criminals lose, and law abiding public wins. The "danger to our community", is not this officer, but is the criminal whose own actions led to his tragic death, and the attitudes of people like you! If you do not like living in a safe community, please move!

I think D completely misses the point. For those of us that have lived in Danville for many years we know how peaceful this town is and the last thing we need is a cop who treats Danville like a war zone or a crime ridden big city where everyone who doesn't like someone who lives in Danville is a risk to the community. The number of cops outside of Hall who have killed someone within the Danville city limits is zero so either the rest of the police officers in Danville know how to de-escalate situations or Hall is the only unlucky police officer in town who keeps running into life threatening situations. If I take D's comment further maybe anyone who doesn't immediately follow a police offers order should be shot because if that were the case there would a lot of Danville residents shot leaving the bars on a Saturday night in downtown Danville. And as far as the "picture" that knife doesn't look that threatening that the he couldn't have be disarmed by taser (he probably would have dropped his shopping bag as well) and from the witness on NBC news Hall was chasing the guy not the other way around and Hall shot him after he turned around. This is a rouge cop who needs to be investigated (and probably removed) and hopefully this incident doesn't go national and our town given a major headache since he has shot and killed two minorities in the last two years in a town with with very few minorities.

I agree with D. This man pulled a knife on a police officer, and he told him to "drop the knife several times." If you pull a weapon on a police officer, and ignore several commands to drop the weapon, the police will shoot. and rightfully so. If they have a choice of your life or their own, police will go with the latter.

Quit defending thugs. Once again, someone was shot because he refused to COOPERATE WITH THE POLICE. And if it's minorities getting shot, it's not because they're minorities. It's because they refused to cooperate. It would happen to ANYONE who refuses. Get real.

Jennifer needs to get real. This cop has killed two people both minorities and both mentally ill and somehow no other cop in town has killed either. I have seen how the cops have treated mentally ill white people in town who haven't cooperated and it hasn't ended up with shooting them to death. In fact anyone who lived in Diablo West probably remember the mentally ill white guy who roamed the neighborhood for years scaring kids and others screaming threats at them. Somehow he was never killed and was always returned home to his father and yet he was pretty big and threatening. Of course Jennifer immediately this man a thug. How does she know that? Wondering what caused her to call this mentally ill black person a thug? Does she have a history with him? Does she know him? Must have some basis for calling him a thug. No one is not defending the police officers in this town, they do their job and have made this a pretty damn good place to live. This cop who is the only cop who has killed people in Danville has stained our police force and needs to be removed.

Our wonderful police protect us. You can't try to run someone over with a vehicle. You can't throw rocks at cars on the freeway. You can't come at someone with a knife when ordered to drop it. These are indefensible and deadly behaviors. This officer was brave and served our community well. I believe blame should go where the blame is deserved- the criminal.

I think Artsyone needs to read the report on the 2019 shooting by Officer Hall. The gentleman wasn't driving into him. Officer shot him through his back window. And you actually don't have evidence that this gentleman was throwing rocks over the highway, just someone reporting on it. He probably did but again no major accidents caused by the supposed rock throwing. I have seen more near accidents caused by the Trump supporters on that overpass than rock throwers. And as far as the knife let's see the video of what actually happened instead of just believing the words of the only police officer who has shot to death people in Danville. There were lots of other officers there so lets put them and under oath as well as witnesses like the woman who talked to NBC Bay Area and learn the truth

I think blame should go where the blame is deserved -- with the criminal as well. Anyone who pulls a knife on a police officer and refuses to cooperate with the police by not dropping the knife after several commands IS a thug. Threatening a police officer will get you shot, and if you don't get it -- good luck.

Jennifer is so quick to call a black man a thug based on one picture. Good luck to her.

Jennifer and D. are right on. The Danville PD is one of the best in the county, if not in the state. Chief Allan Shields has done a great job in training and administering a truly professional force. If the news reports are accurate, Officer Hall did exactly what he had to do to defend himself from a lunatic criminal who had been identified as throwing rocks at cars from a freeway overpass. Thanks to Officer Hall and his cohorts Danville is one of the safest and best policed towns in the Bay area.

So now he is a lunatic criminal? Aren't people innocent before proven guilty in this country? Or was Officer Hall the judge, jury and executioner of the best police force in the county if not the state? Some people might judge Mr Glenn comments as racist and bigoted since he probably has never met Tyrell Wilson so he has no clue if he is a lunatic criminal but just knows that he is a black man shot to death by a police officer for reasons Mr Glen has determined from one picture as perfectly lawful. Maybe Mr Wilson was just having a bad day like the white killer in Georgia had on Tuesday Web Link

Here we go again blaming the officer instead of the criminal. The fact is, Danville is no longer the safe haven it was 20 years ago. Things change people and criminals are finding us. I commend this officer for his actions and condemn those of you who never walk a mile in his shoes. Shame on you. It doesn’t matter how many shootings he has been in. What counts is were they righteous shootings. I’m sure the Sheriffs Office will be examining the evidence. All you lounge chair sitters, hind sight referees need to stop passing judgement until the facts are in.

I can understand why Vickialamo feels Danville is not a safe place to live anymore. After all she lives in the crime ridden streets of Alamo. In fact a friend of mine who lives there last week told me of the terror she felt when at 9pm one night when two separate people maliciously sent pizza's to her address from the nearby Round Table. Crime is out of control in the north end of the Tri-Valley.

It is interesting how quickly based on one photo of a black man holding a knife (and a shopping bag as well) people like Vickialamo, Jennifer, Lewis Glenn, D and Artsyone went immediately to calling this man a thug, lunatic criminal or claimed Officer Hall was fully justified in killing him.

I could based, on their responses above, make judgements of them as racists, bigots and people scared of being in the presence of black people they don't have control over but I won't. I could also assume that they feel just like the Sherriff in Georgia said that the white guy who killed 8 people in Atlanta last week was just a poor troubled guy who was having a bad day and are glad the police were able to arrest him without killing him even though he had a car full of weapons, but again I won't since I know nothing about them except what they wrote above.

If you even bothered to read my posts I am pro police and think Danville police do a good job, but I very concerned about one Danville cop who seems to have a quick trigger finger when it comes to detaining minorities when no other Danville cop seems to have that problem. But none of the above 4 seem to care about that. They are just happy to see a cop kill a black man who based one photo and a yet to be proven report of him throwing rocks from an overpass they determined was a thug or a lunatic criminal. God save us all in Danville.

ANYONE who pulls a knife on a police officer, and refuses to drop their weapon puts himself in a position to be shot. Being black has NOTHING to do with it. I'd feel the same way if he/she was white, black, Hispanic, Asian, Native American, ect. Race is IRRELEVANT.

You are not "pro-police." You're a criminal enabler.

Mr. M, I suggest you look at the video of that fatal shooting. The line of fire was first directed to the front and side of the suspects car.

One last thought...

Mr. Don M, you also stated the following:

"It is interesting how quickly based on one photo of a black man holding a knife... I could based, on their responses above, make judgements of them as racists, bigots and people scared of being in the presence of black people they don't have control over but I won't."

None of the people who posted in opposition to your comments mentioned the fact that the suspect was black. You did.

Malcolm, Malcolm, Malcolm- You should know by now you don't have to actually say black person to know what you and your friends above meant. Our former president taught us all that. After all I am sure all of you are very fine people and never see color and like Jennifer says black has nothing to do with it. I would be curious to know what the first word that came to your and Jennifer's mind with the following people.
1. People who stormed the Capitol building, killed and beat police officers and threatened to hang our Vice President and other leaders
2. Parents who paid off college coaches to get their kids into schools they otherwise didn't deserve
3. 2 people who bombed a federal building in Oklahoma City
4. A man who killed 8 people and claimed he did it due to a sex addiction

I would also be curious what you called the following people
1. Spring Breakers in Miami Beach this weekend
2. Sideshow fans in Oakland
3. People peacefully protesting against police violence in Portland and in front of the White House
4. The guy who held police at bay while locked in his car in Danville for over 4 hours on March 9

Ah, a quiz!

1. Spring Breakers in Miami Beach this weekend - Idiots
2. Sideshow fans in Oakland - Stupid
3. People looting in Portland and storming the White House - Thugs
4. The guy who held police at bay while locked in his car in Danville for over
four hours on March 9 - Mental Health Crisis

Thank you! That was fun.

Thank you Officer Hall for your response, for putting yourself in harm's way to serve your community, for not dying today, and for living to see your family to serve another day.

This world is upside down right now. Folks, the "suspect" here is a man armed with a knife charging at an officer. The victim would have been the officer if he had not acted.

The Monday morning quarterbacks who live in a bubble and whom have limited experience with real violence will never understand. They are sheep and you are our sheepdog. Thank you for fighting the wolves.

Violence is not pretty. It seems some sheep conceptualize that real violence happens in 16:9 ratio, has dolby sound, occurs in slow motion, and is backlit like an action movie... or the 'action' part can just be stopped by pushing 'pause' on their remote control, or 'X' on their gamer controllers.

In gratitude,
