DeSaulnier seeks to bolster local news with recent legislation

Tri-Valley Rep. DeSaulnier introduced two pieces of federal legislation late last month aimed at bolstering local news amid ongoing social and economic threats to the industry and recognizing the role of local journalism in democracy.

One might argue that the news media, corporate or local, has actually contributed to the demise of democracy having strayed from objective reporting indulging in partisan favoritism to a particular political side...both sides of the divide. Whatever problem this legislation is intended to address isn't clear to this reader anyway.
