Just what we need. Another government tax funded agency that will require us to believe that we are forever defined as either oppressors or oppressed. Marxism 2.0 is not what is required to bring unity and civility back to this nation. The actual purpose of Marxist Critical Race Theory is to bring chaos, division, and bitterness to this nation. Hard to believe we are actually paying for this and actually believe this will achieve the aforementioned Racial Equity and Social Justice. Equity is not equality. Equity is lowering standards to an equitable level of misery. Social justice sees people as permanently oppressed or oppressors. Most people really don’t want to live this way.

I agree, Mo. Woke is a joke; including the fools who follow this Marxist nonsense. What the woke followers don’t understand is that they themselves are being used by their woke peers. Take a look at BLM.

Ah yes, BLM. Yeah, that woke organization that were supposed to help people out. Instead, the heads of BLM raked in millions of dollars off the backs of the very stooges who supported them. What a clown show. And it continues with the likes of the current class of clowns known as the County BOS. However, the County BOS sounds more like the old Soviet Politburo:

The question is...just how effective will this proposed Office of Racial Equity and Social Justice be in terms of addressing and resolving the pervasive issues of prejudice and economic inequality in Contra Costa County?

The teaching and current focus on Critical Race Theory has alienated many individuals whose ancestors benefited from the practice of slavery and the Confederate flag has rightfully become a despised symbol of white oppression and supremacy.

A deeper review of American history has proven that the United States (like various Communist and Fascist countries of the past) also relied heavily on human exploitation and vast thefts of land for its eventual success.

It should also be noted that Marxism can be just as racist as Capitalism when it comes to the abuse and exploitation of human labor and the genocide of various ethnicities.

A comprehensive immersion and understanding of woke history and Critical Race Theory along with promoting a widespread acceptance of LGBTQ culture & lifestyles will be important if this program is to succeed.

The only ones who might oppose this program are the deniers who tend to disavoy reality.

It is refreshing to learn that Contra Costa County is striving to become more progressive towards acknowledging diversity and America's wrongdoings of the past.

This is a step in the right direction.

Kudos to the Contra Costa Board of Supervisors for considering this program.

There are many here among us who are in favor of promoting racial and economic equality/equity and to address the many wrongdoings towards people of color and the LGBTQ community.

Not all Contra Costa County residents endorse the song of the South and its racist past.

Mo, you are wrong. Governments and Schools don’t force their citizens and students to learn Critical race theory. There is a lot baseless hype and lies that conservative Republicans are spreading across the country including California with the intention of dividing us. On the other hand, racism exists and is rampant against Jews and against brown and black people. There is the reality of racism that needs to be fought against and there is also the lies that Democrats are making our white kids feel bad by telling them they are racists - also needs to be fought against.

Equality is equal opportunity for everyone. Equity is equal outcome for everyone. The failed former Soviet Union practiced equity and it did not work out too well for them.

@Maskedman is absolutely correct. Equal opportunity is what our country should strive for, not equity or equal results.

For example, according to the 2020 U.S. Census, 61.6 of the country is white, and 12.4% black. In 2021 in the NBA, 73.2% of the players were black, and only 16.8% were white. Is this because of "systematic racism" against whites when it comes to basketball, and should we thus mandate that more white players be reserved spots on teams to have equity? Of course not, because equal opportunity is what matters, not equal results.

Nobody denies the terrible history of racism in our country, and much needed changes in laws and practice over the years have largely evened the playing field in the U.S., where equal opportunity does largely exist. Is the system perfect? Of course not, but mandating equity over opportunity only causes more inequity and divisions between races and cultures.

Today China is more along the lines of a capitalist-socialist country as there is more money to be made in pursuing this route.
