SRVUSD Superintendent Malloy is still dodging his District-wide “Cal High Racist Incident 5.23.22” post, wherein he amplified a fabricated social media post last May, thereby defaming Cal High’s Stunt Team. Details are posted by the SRV Expositor, ( Web Link ).

Malloy ignored SRVUSD’s own “Responding to Discrimination and Hate Handbook,” which advises, "Do not jump to conclusions. If you are hasty, you may spread misinformation yourself." But naturally, SRVUSD’s similarly irresponsible school board extended Malloy’s nearly $400,000 contract (salary & benefits) anyway, until 2025.

As to “transgender youth in school sports”: In 2013, San Francisco homosexual activist and California Assemblyman Tom Ammiano introduced AB 1266, which required that students "be permitted to participate in sex-segregated school programs, activities, including athletic teams and competitions, and use facilities consistent with his or her gender identity, irrespective of the gender listed on the pupil's records."

That legislation passed readily in California’s Democrat-controlled legislature, with "aye" votes including local legislators (then State Senator, now Congressman) Mark DeSaulnier and Assemblywoman (and former SRVUSD School Board member) Joan Buchanan. So now, high school boys need only to declare they’re girls to enter girls’ restrooms and locker rooms, and also to participate as girls' athletic team members.

The results of such insanity include such outrages as a biological mail wearing sunglasses recently invading a girls’ locker room at San Ramon Valley High, with administrative approval (Web Link ). Were school districts statewide to disregard their teacher-union radicals and stand up to such bullying by perverse "LGBTQ" politicians and "trans" activists, such pernicious assaults on the moral order would cease.

And "biological mail" should of course be "biological male"!

Under these new guidelines, will males who identify as female be allowed to compete in girl's athletic events and vice versa?

If so, this will make certain sports (i.e. football, wrestling, aquatics, and track & field) highly controversial as well as entertaining (to some).

Gym/shower assignments will also change and create potential turmoil.

The best case scenario would be for only those who have fully transgendered surgically to be allowed to compete as the gender of their choice. Hormone replacement therapy is insufficient to justify full-scale transgender sports participation.

In the U.K. there is men's synchronized swimming along with the more traditional women's competition.

In 2018-19, male college sophomore, 6 ft. 4 in. swimmer “Lia" (Will) Thomas's 500 yd freestyle ranked 65th among NCAA men.

But that left him “miserable," Thomas reported in May on “Good Morning America." So he decided he'd “transition." Having thereby “won" the Division 1 NCAA Women's 500 free in March, “the biggest change" is that he's now “happy," declared still-baritone Thomas.

What about ACTUAL women whose finishes were all dropped a spot by Thomas, despite their patient years of tough training?

In Connecticut: Selina Soule, Alanna Smith, Chelsea Mitchell, and Ashley Nicoletti were four girls whose top and high-level state track rankings were displaced by biological males competing as “females.” Their attorneys assert violations of Title IX, whose “whole purpose was to ensure that girls had equal athletic opportunities to compete – and win – in girls’ sports events.”

“Two males,” they continue, “were permitted to compete in girls’ athletic competitions beginning in the 2017 track season. Between them, they took 15 women’s state championship titles (titles held in 2016 by 9 different Connecticut girls) and more than 85 opportunities to participate in higher level competitions from female track athletes in the 2017, 2018, and 2019 seasons alone.”

And increasingly, the ABSURDITY of males competing in female sports (along with girls' locker-room discomfort) has become the DANGER of that surrender to “transgender” activist demands. In North Carolina, a self-promotional recruiting video assembled by a Highlands School biological male playing girls’ volleyball shows that male spiking the ball (reportedly at over 70 mph), knocking unconscious an opposing player hit in the forehead. The injured player reportedly sustained a concussion and vision problems, and her school district will now forfeit any future matches against Highlands as a matter of safety.

Let me get this straight (no pun intended)...do these athletic revisions mean that a student athlete can now compete in any gender designation based on one's state of mind?

Some longstanding high school sports records will most likely be broken, most notably among biological boys competing the girl's divisions.

Will there be asterisks assigned for records broken by males competing as females? Swimming along with Track & Field events immediately come to mind.

In golf, there is a men's tee and a ladies tee. Since golf is a game where you 'drive for show & putt for dough', will male players identifying as female now be allowed to use the shorter tee range?

From a possible non-controversial standpoint, transgender-based football and wrestling might be OK as well as entertaining.

We'll just have to wait and see.

Unsurprisingly, boys/men are in fact already setting “records” in girls’/women’s athletic events. See, for example, an AP report on Connecticut track ( Web Link ).

And as a once-upon-a-time serious and successful swimming coach, I paid particular attention to U Penn “transgender” swimmer “Lia” (Will) Thomas’s performances this past year. His times at an early-season invitational meet (December, 2021) in Akron indicated the possibility that he’d be setting “women’s” national records at the NCAA Division I Championship in March.

At the Akron “Zippy Invitational,” Thomas went 1:41.93 in the 200 yd freestyle and 4:34.06 in the 500 yd freestyle. At that level of competition, drops of 2 or 3 seconds in the 200, and maybe 10 seconds or more in the 500, are expected after competitors “taper” (back off hard training and then rest and shave, and wear fastest permissible tech suits) for season-ending championship meets.

At the NCAA Championship, Thomas instead slowed to a 1:42.09 in the 200 in preliminary (qualifying) rounds, and then an even slower 1:43.40 in the final, tying for fifth. The national record in the event is Olympian Missy Franklin’s 1:39.10.

In the Championship 500 free in March, Thomas went only slightly faster than in December, with a 4:33.24. The national record in that event is Olympian Katie Ledecky’s 4:24.06. Thomas did “win” the 500 free, however, by 1.75 seconds over Virginia’s Emma Weyant (4:34.99).

For comparison: Weyant swam a 4:47.18 in a competitive meet in January. So she dropped more than 12 seconds by season’s end.

Long and short: like many or most of today’s professional swim coaches, I suspect that “Lia” Thomas was “bagging” (holding back on) his season-end races. Was he perhaps cautioned by “transgender”-activist advisors, as a public relations maneuver, not to challenge real women’s national records?

This transgender issue pertaining to athletics is more critical and controversial when it comes to individual sports endeavors and established records.

With team sports it is less problematic.

Lia Thomas (swimmer) and Chelsea Manning-Grimes (former military specialist) are inspirational leading-edge pioneers in the transgender community.

Though some naysayers will strive to discredit their gender identities, many younger transgenders view them as intrepid heroes.

The majority of these transgender sports controversies involve males identifying as females.

Very few (if any) involve females competing as males and having an unfair physical advantage.

Biological males competing in female team sports can create dangerous imbalances.

Again, consider the highlight/recruiting video self-assembled by a biological male competing on a girls’ high school volleyball team in North Carolina — wherein the male’s 70 mph spike leaves a girl with a concussion and vision problems: Web Link .

Last spring in Guam, a biological male playing girls’ rugby injured three opposing players in a single game: Web Link .

The Guam Rugby Union, regulator of high school rugby there, decided just days later to keep the game “as safe as possible. Because of this fact, rugby eligibility rules cannot allow the risk to players to be increased by allowing people who have the force and power advantages conferred by testosterone to play with and against those who do not.” ( Web Link ).

Sometimes, biological male players in female team sports simply make those contests grossly unfair. See the crazy story of “Gabrielle” (Robert) Ludwig a 6’8”, 230-pound male who played on a college women’s team: Web Link .

It’s an “Emperor’s New Clothes” moment.

I covered the ludicrous “Lia” (Will) Thomas affair above. And “Chelsea” (Bradley) Manning as another transgender “hero”?

As an Army intelligence analyst, Manning publicly released nearly 750,000 military and diplomatic documents, many of them classified. Convicted on 17 related charges, Manning was sentenced in 2013 to 35 years imprisonment at Fort Leavenworth. But President Barack Obama commuted Manning’s sentence in January 2017, along with that of Puerto Rican terrorist Oscar Lopez Rivera.

In addition to swimming and track/field, golf and tennis are two other non-contact sports where transgender (male to female) contestants should not be allowed entry.

Perhaps a separate transgender sports competition category is warranted.

As a transitioning transgender, it is refreshing to learn that most of the public outcry pertains to unfavorable sports competition.

As a non-athlete I just want to be more comfortable within my own body and psyche.

Though my parents are somewhat dismayed, they are learning to accept non-binary gender affiliations and have been very supportive to date.

Sports competition aside, are adolescents emotionally and mentally mature enough to make key decisions pertaining to their preferred gender identity?

Our 14 year-old daughter has decided to no longer participate in girl's youth sports programs (soccer, tennis, volleyball, swimming, and golf) if transgender males are allowed to compete in the girl's divisions as female.

I can't rightly blame her and feel bad that she is walking away from previous all-girls sports competitions (primarily swimming & tennis) that she has a natural gift for.

Hopefully she will find another outlet.

Grant, I was a swim coach in the late 60s, the 70s, and on through the 80s. I was very pleased for my young women athletes when Title IX (1972) made athletic opportunities (including grants in aid, i.e. scholarships) more readily available for them — though I was dismayed to see a corresponding reduction, or even elimination, of such dollars for some male athletic programs.

One of those eventual budgetary targets was UCLA Men’s Swimming, in 1994. UCLA Coach Ron Ballatore, whom I’d known as an early 70s high school coaching competitor in Ohio, had coached at least 28 Olympians from 1978 to 1994. Here’s hoping that UCLA’s membership in the "Big 10" (and the new media dollars which will result) can help return full support for men’s swimming there.

But meanwhile, the gross “Lia” (Will) Thomas unfairness of last spring has helped to drive new regulations (as of June) within FINA, the International Swimming Federation — and thereby within the International Olympic Committee and USA Swimming ( Web Link ). The latter governs swim clubs here.

For “male to female transgender” swimmers, those new rules require (while not encouraging) hormonal transition prior to age 12, and residual serum testosterone levels below 2.5 nmole/L, versus a normal 10 to 35 nmole/L level for young-adult XY chromosomal males.

So I encourage your daughter to continue her club swimming (if she’s involved in same).

Unfortunately, and (no) thanks to California’s perverse Democrat state legislators, school-age males of any testosterone level can still call themselves “females” and “compete” in school-based athletic contests for girls.

In those situations, your daughter can then help further to expose such insanity by sitting out of races against known biological males.

Women's beauty pageants are now coming under fire for restricting the inclusion of transgender contestants and the 9th District Court recently ruled that an Oregon beauty pageant can exclude transgenders because they do not represent in the pageant's words, "an ideal image of womanhood."

Since beauty pageants are not athletic events requiring speed, stamina, or strength, should they be open to all contestants regardless of gender identity?

Athletic contests are simply one element in this insane controversy, in which it’s often become enough for a biological male, whether coldly calculating or mentally ill, simply to declare himself female to gain what should remain as private spaces and events (whether athletic or not) organized for actual females.

Others include locker room and restroom access, prison-cell assignments, co-ed dormitories, etc., etc.

And how far should this self-declaration maneuver be accommodated? Was it OK for Rachel Dolezal to declare falsely that she was black or “African American” and thereby become an NAACP chapter president?

Should Elizabeth Warren have been able to advance herself as “American Indian” or “Native American” with the minuscule possibilities suggested by her DNA. The Cherokee Nation didn’t/doesn’t thinks so.

I’m closer genetically to being Joe Biden — or even Barack Obama — than all but about 0.0067% of XY chromosomal males (those with disorders of sexual development, including androgen insensitivity) will ever be to becoming female. But I don’t demand that I be addressed as “Mr. President,” nor do I expect access to the Oval Office on my say-so.

In the context you mention: if a criterion for a woman’s beauty pageant is “an ideal image of womanhood,” then the entry-level requirement is to be an actual woman, not some pretend, self-defined version thereof.

To many people, "an ideal image of womanhood" is someone who was actually born female, not a post-constructed variant posing as one.

Pretending to be someone/something is one thing as kids do it on Halloween and adults often do so at masquerade parties.

To actually believe one is an entirely different gender than the one assigned at birth is a bit of a stretch.

First: “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness” is a Declaration of Independence phrase (not in the Constitution), referring to “unalienable rights” which “are endowed by [our] Creator.”

Genuine rights of one individual ordinarily impose no affirmative obligation on others. So someone else’s pursuit of happiness doesn’t require me to fund his/her Disneyland vacation — or at least it ought not to, despite today’s welfare-state extremes.

And someone else's First Amendment right to freedom of speech doesn’t require me to listen to that person.

The Declaration’s most relevant element here is perhaps its complaint about British officials “declaring themselves invested with power to legislate for us in all cases whatsoever.” That’s in a sense what transgender activists do these days: they declare themselves as legitimate invaders of others’ privacy.

Those wishing to maintain a civil society believe instead that one individual’s rights end when exercise of those rights intrudes on the rights of others. Transgender-rights radicals don’t accept that fundamental concept.

So today, sadly and stupidly, common sense has been ejected from the pilot seat of government, and chaos reigns. Consider the predictable consequences already occurring when “transgender women” (i.e. biological men) are placed in women’s prisons. From what I've been told, the transgender community just wants to be accepted for who they are and included in social activities previously restricted by conventional gender identities.

Though the founding fathers did not fully address this issue in the Constitution or Declaration of Independence, being transgender is an implied freedom guaranteeing the right to be whatever one chooses regardless of their race, color, or creed.

It is up to the beauty pageants and swim meet hosts to establish their admissions policies and for the courts to decide if the entry rules are valid and do not infringe upon anyone's civil rights

Yes, such a situation would be doubly irresponsible. Young children are highly plastic, and vulnerable to both adult and age-peer influences in developing conceptions of self. Parental encouragement of cross dressing and “transgender” behavior at age 6 is at best naïve.

Beauty pageants for little girls (or boys pretending to be girls) are exploitative. It reminds me of “Little League” parents who live vicariously through their children’s performances, something I saw periodically as a swim coach, at times requiring my intervention.

Let kids be kids, not showpieces.

Your pediatrician is likely affected by what many regard as the clinical misfeasance and malfeasance of the politically driven American Academy of Pediatrics (and the “World Professional Association for Transgender Health,” WPATH).

For a time, AAP appeared to be more concerned and restrictive in its position on youth tattoos and piercings than it was in placing kids on the runaway train for social transition, then hormonal (puberty blocker) treatment, then surgical mutilation.

All 35 SRVUSD schools have designated facilitators (only two of them even psychologists) for implementing students’ “gender support plans.” “Gender Spectrum,” a WPATH-connected gender-bender activist outfit, provides the assessment forms. I’ve told SRVUSD’s school board and administrators that they’re permitting unlicensed, amateur psychotherapy.

As I recall, Dr. (Richard) Renee Richards successfully sued the U.S. Tennis Association in the 1970s for the right to compete as a woman. After losing to Virginia Wade in the U.S. Open, Dr. Richards was successful competing in mixed doubles and later coached Martina Navratilova.

No harm was done as the other female tennis players held their own and were successful in their own right regardless of Dr. Richards competing against them.

Imagine if Caitlyn (Bruce) Jenner (or even Mark Spitz) had transitioned and competed as females during the Olympics. Their records would stand the test of time and in this race for the gold, I suspect that few Americans would begrudge them for beating other women Olympic competitors, especially the ones from the USSR and East Germany.

Pride in winning transcends gender identity and gifted athletes should be allowed to compete wherever they want.

As for locker room/gym issues, just change clothes in the car and shower back at the hotel. Problem solved.

I’ve already addressed “Caitlyn” (Bruce) Jenner performances, above. He himself objects to “biological boys who are trans competing in girls' sports in school.”

And as “Renee Richards” (born Richard Raskind) has himself said: “Maybe not even I should have been allowed to play on the women’s tour.” As Slate further reported: Richards “opposes the International Olympic Committee’s ruling in 2004 that transgender people can compete after they’ve had surgery and two years of hormonal therapy….”

“… And Richards has come to believe that her past as a man did provide her advantages over competitors. ‘Having lived for the past 30 years, I know if I’d had surgery at the age of 22, and then at 24 went on the tour, no genetic woman in the world would have been able to come close to me.” ( Web Link ).

“Richards” did indeed eventually coach Martina Navratilova, who herself has criticized biological male intrusion in women’s and girls’ sports. Navratilova joined former collegiate track star (now Duke Law Professor) Doriane Coleman and Olympic gold medalist Sanya Richards-Ross in a 2019 Washington Post article to make that point.

“The evidence is unequivocal,” they observed, “that starting in puberty, in every sport except sailing, shooting and riding, there will always be significant numbers of boys and men who would beat the best girls and women in head-to-head competition. Claims to the contrary are simply a denial of science” ( Web Link ).
