@Jeremy,
As soon as you said that you don’t want to live in a city, state, or country, where police can arrest people in secrecy by default, you lost me. When was that topic ever raised in the post you refer to? It wasn’t. A feeble attempt of throwing shade at the police, perhaps?
I’ll cut you some slack and assume you were referring to the former East German Stasi.

Some people will never understand "at the sole discretion." They're overbearing and very draining. Sad.

And some people don’t like it when when other people give opposing views. Like you.
So much for discretion, eh?

Arrest and conviction are two different entities.
Unless one has a preoccupation with publically shaming people, the names and descriptions of arrestees should be withheld pending further court dates.

@Malcom Hex
There are other sources for the information you so desperately wish to see posted in Danville San Ramon.
Why not utilize those alternative sources rather than editorialize about how to run this publication?
It's kind of like if one does not care for the direction of a certain news outlet (i.e. MNBC, CNN etc.), there's always Fox News.
Or better yet, maybe consider creating a blog or webpage to expound your own perspectives on crime and punishment.

@Tomkins
1. I’m not desperately wishing to utilize other sources of information posted in Danville / San Ramon. You said that, I didn’t.
2. I’m not trying to run this publication. Bad choice of words, perhaps? Unless you’re assuming the newspaper is up for sale and I want to buy it. If that’s the case, no thank you.
3. Why would I need a blog to expound my own perspectives when I can use this forum? I mean, isn’t that what a forum is for?
Be at peace.

@Mr. Hex...it's called 'on a need to know basis' and while most of us are satisfied with the Danville San Ramon reportage protocols you are apparently in need of further information.
Other options to consider... 'ride-along' opportunities with the local police departments, following breaking events on unencrypted police frequencies via scanner, referencing the criminal court dockets at Superior Court in Martinez etc.
Consider exploring those options and then get back to us. Thank you for your service and concerns.

Malcom Hex is entitled to his views, no different than Deputy Barney Fife of Mayberry. The world is much safer under these premises.

Another option for Mr. Hex...The San Ramon Police Volunteer Program. They assist the PD in a variety of functions including the preparation of official departmental correspondences and crime reports.
Thank you for your consideration.
